West Seattle Soccer Programs

The West Seattle Soccer Club is committed to providing the best possible youth sports experience for players age 5-18 and their families! Our youth soccer programs are modified (scaled to be developmentally appropriate) for players aged 5 to 11 years old. Please read Reasons for Small-Sided Play (published by US Youth Soccer) for additional information

Academic Year Registration - West Seattle Soccer registers players by Academic Year with birth dates August 31st of the current year through August 30th of the following year.  This promotes classmates playing with each other, however, if your player started school late they likely will not be playing with their grade.  For those players born August 31st through December 31st, the "U" or "under" designation for divisions does not apply and those players actually turn the age of the division.  An Academic Year chart is posted on the Registration Overview page.

Age Divisions -  All affiliates of US soccer determine "AGE" is that of the player as of December 31st of the current year. Teams and ages are referred to as U (under) then an age. For example, players turning 10 during the calendar year play on U-11 teams.

League Affiliation- The West Seattle Soccer Club is a member of the Highline Soccer Association under Washington Youth Soccer.

COED U-6 and U-7 SOCCER (Club)

• Kindergarten and 1st Grade (Ages 5 - 6) according to Academic Year matrix (right side of page, bottom of page on Mobile) CLICK HERE
• Registration fee - refer to Registration Overview page for current player fee
• Season - 8 games (September to November) - Refer to Schedules
• Game Days - Sundays in West Seattle (against other WSSC and HSC teams)
• Girls and boys play on the same teams
• Master Coach program. Teams will have a short practice (~40 mins) led by professional coaches prior to games on Sunday. Through our "Coach the player - Teach the coach" modules, the Master Coaches demonstrate the activities with the team coaches, who then lead the activities with their teams. • Team practices (optional) typically start in early September. The practice time (usually once a week) is determined by the volunteer coaches who make every effort to find a time suitable for all players on the team.These team practices are optional and are in addition to the Sunday Master Coach training.

Coordinator - Janna Templin

Coed U-6 & U-7 Soccer is beginning soccer. U-6 and U-7 teams (5 & 6 yr.) play "Micro" soccer. It involves short games on small fields with no goalkeeper and 4 players to a side. Games are two 16-minute halves. This allows these young players plenty of opportunities to run and get a maximum number of touches on the ball, without worrying a lot about playing positions. Coed U-6 and U-7 teams play only other WSSC Coed U-6 and U-7 teams and teams from our Association affiliate, the Highline Soccer Club. The emphasis is on beginning skills of ball handling and passing. The coaches of each team serve as the game referees and are permitted to coach from the field. Scores are not kept and there are no standings. Shin guards must be provided by each player; soccer cleats are recommended but not required.

MOD SOCCER U-8 (Association)

• 2nd Grade according to Academic Registration matrix (right side of page, bottom of page on Mobile) CLICK HERE
• Registration fee - refer to Registration Overview page for current player fee
• Season - 10 games in September - November
• Games - Saturdays in West Seattle and HSC (Some travel is required. Up to 50% of games will be played AWAY at nearby Highline Soccer Club)
• Girls and boys play on separate, single-gender teams.
• Maximum roster size is 9 players
  
• Team Practices typically start in late August. The practice time is determined by the volunteer coaches who make every effort to find a time suitable for all players on the team.
• Certified referees are scheduled through state authorized organizations (TRIAS).

MOD SOCCER U-9 / U-10 (Association)

• 3rd and 4th Grades according to Academic Registration matrix (right side of page, bottom of page on Mobile) CLICK HERE
• Registration fee - refer to Registration Overview page for current player fee
• Season - 10 games in September - November
• Games - Saturdays in West Seattle and HSC (Some travel is required. Up to 50% of games will be played AWAY at nearby Highline Soccer Club)
• Girls and boys play on single gender teams
• Maximum roster size is 12 players.
• Team Practices typically start in late August. The practice time is determined by the volunteer coaches who make every effort to find a time suitable for all players on the team.
• Certified referees are scheduled through state authorized organizations (TRIAS).

Coordinator(s) - Stephane Minlo

U-9 and U-10 teams play 7v7 soccer. Fields are around 30yd x 50yd. Games are two 25-minute halves. Referees cover many games although coaches still fill in. Girls and boys play on separate teams in separate leagues. Team rosters have a maximum of 12 players. U-9 and U-10 teams play other WSSC teams as well as teams from HSC. Scores are not kept and there are no standings. Shin guards and soccer cleats must be provided by each player. The emphasis is on continued skill development and the introduction of team play tactics.

MOD SOCCER U-11 / U12 (Association or SSUL) / U-12

• Season - 10 games in September - November, up to 12 games in September - December (SSUL)
• Games - U-11: Saturdays in West Seattle and HSC (Some travel is required. Up to 50% of games may be played AWAY at nearby Highline Soccer Club)
  U-12: Saturdays in West Seattle (Home). Up to 50% of games may be played AWAY at other SSUL association clubs.
• Girls and boys play on single gender teams
• Maximum roster size is 14 players
• Team Practices typically start in late August. The practice time is determined by the volunteer coaches who make every effort to find a time suitable for all players on the team.
• Certified referees are scheduled through state authorized organizations (TRIAS).

Coordinator(s) - Jesse Russell

U-11 and U-12 teams play 9v9 soccer. Fields are around 50yd x 75yd. Games are two 30 minute halves. Referees cover many games although coaches still fill in. Girls and boys play on separate teams in separate leagues. Team rosters have a maximum of 14 players. U-11 teams play other WSSC teams as well as teams from HSC. Scores are kept and there are standings. HSA awards team trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams. Shin guards and soccer cleats must be provided by each player. The emphasis is on continued skill development, and the introduction of team play tactics.

The transition between Mod Soccer (Association) and Full-Sided soccer (SSUL)

Full-Sided Soccer U-13 and Above (SSUL)

• Age 12-18 as according to our birth year matrix CLICK HERE
• Registration fee - refer to Registration Overview page for current player fee
• Season - up to 12 games in September - December (no games the weekend after Thanksgiving)
• Games - Boys and Girls U13-14 will play on Saturdays. Boys and Girls U-15 through U-19 will play on Sundays.
• Girls and boys play on single gender teams in separate leagues
• Maximum roster size is 18 players
• Game sheets and US Soccer membership passes are required
• Team Practices typically start in August. The practice time is determined by the volunteer coaches who make every effort to find a time suitable for all players on the team.
• Certified referees are scheduled through state authorized organizations (TRIAS).
