Thank you for considering registering to volunteer with West Seattle Soccer Club!
To ensure the safety of our players and compliance with Washington Youth Soccer policies, all club volunteers are required to:
- Complete SafeSport and Introduction to Safe & Healthy Playing Environments courses through the U.S. Soccer Learning Center
- Submit a background check through Sports Connect (this site)
The guide below walks you step-by-step through the entire process. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Register in SportsConnect with the Club
- Create or log into your account.
- Select Volunteer from the left menu.
- Choose the current season and volunteer role (e.g. Coach, Team Manager). Fill in all required fields.
- There may be places for you to upload certificates – these are outdated. All certification is sync’d automatically for West Seattle Soccer Club.
Step 2: Complete the Safety Courses in the U.S. Soccer Learning Center
- Go to learning.ussoccer.com.
- Create an account using the exact same name, DOB, and email as your SportsConnect profile or log in.
- Enroll in and complete the:
- Introduction to Safe & Healthy Playing Environments
- This replaces the Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest courses.
- Required even though two boxes will appear in SportsConnect — completing this one course satisfies both.
- SafeSport
- This course is Federally required by U.S. Soccer
- Do not complete any background checks in the Learning Center — these do not connect to the club or Washington Youth Soccer and are not valid.
Allow 24–48 hours for your course completion to sync with your SportsConnect Volunteer Page.
Step 3: Authorize Background Check in SportsConnect
- Once your course syncs, go back to the Volunteer tab in SportsConnect.
- You'll now see a Risk Status checkbox.
- Check it and click Renew & Update.
- Follow prompts to authorize your background check (via Washington Youth Soccer system).
- No payment is required — the correct pathway is 100% free to you.
⚠️ Do not authorize or pay for any background check in the Learning Center. It won’t sync, is not accepted, and is non-refundable. ⚠️
Step 4: You're Done!
- Once your background check is processed, your RMA (Risk Management Application) status will update. The club cannot give you roster access for your team until this process is complete in its entirety but will do so as soon as we are able after RMA Clearance is confirmed.
