CHRIS VEGA GHS'12
Chris's Story
In September 2011, Chris Vega noticed that his track times were slowing despite how hard he was training. Assuming he was just rundown, his parents took him for a routine checkup. They were stunned when Chris was diagnosed with leukemia. Throughout his senior year at Glendora High School, Chris fought a courageous battle against the disease at City of Hope. He was admitted to the hospital for the last time in April 2012, graduated from high school in his room that June, and passed away on September 17, 2012.
Chris left behind his parents, Anthony and Annie (a teacher at Sellers), his brothers Daniel and Nicky, and his beloved dog, Moby.
Grace and courage define the Vega family. Chris never questioned "why me?," and his faith never waivered throughout his illness. His family's journey toward healing has been an inspiration to everyone who knows them. Our baseball community is honored to celebrate Chris's memory with an annual City of Hope blood drive and with holiday donations to City of Hope's pediatrics unit.
