2021 Pony Season Update

2021 Pony Season - UPDATE 2/21/21

In light of the latest guidance issued by the California Department of Public Health on February 19, Glendora Pony will move forward towards our
Pony Season Phase I and has extended registration for this program.

EXTENDED REGISTRATIONS THROUGH MARCH 12

March 11 registration postponed to Saturday March 13, 11-2pm

**Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7-8pm**

**Every Saturday from 11-12:30pm**

Drop off completed forms (see below) at the 1st base table.

Our pre-season has been a great success and has been extended through Thursday, March 12, thanks to APU's commitment to our program until then!

A modified Pony tryout will be held (TENTATIVELY) Saturday, March 14. All registered players will receive additional information via email.

Season Phase I fees will not be deposited until your player has been assigned to a team.

Once assigned to a team, there are no refunds. However, if public health & GUSD mandates require us to revert to Skills & Drills, we will make fee modifications. No refunds are made to participants who choose to withdraw from the program.

We expect that this will be a unique season with possibly fewer teams and an inability to interleague responsibly. But as we have watched the pre-season unfold, there are obvious advantages for the boys in a small, more individualized and supported environment.

We pledge to give your boys a safe and positive experience to improve their playing skills and have a fun and healthy season, while adhering to all GUSD, County, and State recommendations.

Registrations for the 2021 Pony Spring Season will take place every Saturday in February, 10am-12pm, at Henderson Field.

To all our PONY families, returning players, and new, incoming players:

2020 has been a difficult and challenging year, and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted.

With the 2021 season fast approaching and clouded by the continuing uncertainty of Covid, we are formatting the league differently this year. The season will be divided into three parts - Preseason, Season Phase 1, and Season Phase 2.

Accordingly, registration fees will also be divided into three separate payments. Our hope is to complete a full season,  but this format takes into account the possibility of Covid-related stoppages.

  • All registered players will participate in our Skills & Drills Program, which focuses on fundamental baseball skills and core training.
  • Players participate in league-formed cohort groups, not teams, with an emphasis on keeping friends together.
  • This is a continuation of a very successful and beneficial program we initiated in September. It allows us to get the boys practicing and working out, while getting everyone used to the safety protocols that will be a necessary part of the 2021 season.
  • Participation in the pre-season is strongly recommended but not mandatory for 2021 Pony players.

PONY Season Phase 1:  To begin with the 2021 PONY DRAFT 2/25 & 2/27.

ALL PLAYERS MUST BE REGISTERED PRIOR TO THE DRAFT.

Team practices to begin the week of March 1 and end the week of March 20.

  • Players will practice on drafted teams 2-3 times a week.
  • If games are permitted, teams will participate in our annual pre-season mini tournament the last week of March.
  • Players will receive team uniforms.

PONY Season Phase Two:  To begin Tuesday, April 6 and (tentatively) end Saturday, June 5. Phase Two assumes games will be permitted by April)

  • Teams will play two games per week and continue practices once a week.
  • A double-elimination play-off tournament will end the season.

All 2020 PONY players are invited to return for the 2021 season regardless of age. Players who are no longer league-age 14 will not be eligible for post-season all star participation.

Our 2021 season promises to be rewarding just to get the boys back on the field!  As we test new formats and create a safe environment for all involved - players, coaches, and spectators - we look forward to sharing the experience together and enjoying an exciting season of baseball!

Stay well and please email [email protected] with any questions you may have.
