Spring Season FAQ

Registration

When is registration for Spring Baseball?

  • Opens: mid November
  • Closes: early January
  • Late registration available with a $50 non-refundable fee. Waitlist may be created; no late entries once teams are formed.

Divisions and Eligibility

What Divisions are offered in Spring Ball?

  • Divisions: Challenger, Tee Ball, Farm, AA, AAA, Majors, 50/70, Juniors
  • Eligibility: Players Little League Age 4-14
  • Little League Age: Please verify your child's Little League Age (see age chart included on this page) before registering. Your child's LL Age can be different from their actual age.

What division is most appropriate for my child?

Season, Schedule, Practice

When is the Spring Ball season?

  • Starts: January (managers meetings, skills assessments, drafts for older divisions)
  • Teams announced: Early February
  • Practices: Begin early February
  • Games: Start usually the first weekend in March, end before Memorial Day

When are games during Spring Ball?

  • Weekday evenings and Saturdays (no Sunday games)
  • Players will have 1-2 games per week

When and where are practices held?

  • Locations, days, and times chosen by team managers
  • Practices may be at DLL field complex on H Street or other parks/fields around Davis
  • Schedules are not set in advance
  • No individual schedule accommodations or practice location guarantees unless volunteering as a manager

Age Verification and Levels

How old does my child need to be to play?

  • Ages 4-14; verify Little League Age before registering (see chart on this page).

What differentiates the divisions?

  • Challenger: Adaptive program for players 5-18 (up to 22 if still enrolled in school). Practices/games on Saturdays at 11am.
  • Tee Ball: Ages 4-6. Basics of the sport, 1 practice and 1 game per week on Saturdays.
  • Farm: Ages 6+, with Tee Ball experience. Introduction to coach pitch, basic skills.
  • AA: Introduction to live pitching, limited base stealing, no tryouts/drafts.
  • AAA: Advanced skills, strategy, required skills assessments, drafts.
  • Majors: Highest skill level, fast play, required skills assessments, drafts.
  • 50/70: For players who aged out of Majors (LL Age 13). Larger fields, district league.
  • Juniors: LL Age 14. Larger fields, district league.

Team Placement

Can siblings be on the same team?

  • Yes, if age and skill level permit.

When are Skills Assessments and who are they for?

  • Required for AA, AAA and Majors divisions.
  • All registered players are assigned to a team.
  • Assessments for 50/70 and Juniors may occur based on registration numbers.

When will I be notified of my child's team placement?

  • Expect notification the week before practices start (likely first week of February).

Special Cases

We live in Woodland/Dixon/Winters. Can my child play in Davis?

  • Yes, if the child attends school in Davis. Otherwise, look to your local Little League program in these locations.

What if my home league is having a season and we prefer Davis Little League?

Friend/Coach Requests

Do you offer friend requests?

  • Tee Ball and Farm: Yes, within reason.
  • AA, AAA, Majors: No friend requests; teams formed through drafts.
  • 50/70, Juniors: No friend requests.
  • Challenger: No friend requests; one team only.

Do you honor coach/manager pairing requests?

  • Tee Ball and Farm: A manager can request up to two assistant coaches.
  • AA, AAA, Majors: A manager can request up to one assistant coach.
  • 50/70, Juniors: A manager can request up to one assistant coach (though generally there is only one team per each division at this level).
  • Challenger: All coaching assistance welcome; one team only.

Fall Ball FAQ

Registration

When is registration for Fall Baseball?
  • Registration opens in July and closes at the end of August.
  • Late registration remains open after regular registration closes, with a $50 non-refundable late fee. A waitlist may be created, but once teams are formed, no additional players will be accepted.

  • Divisions: AA, AAA, Majors, 50/70, and Juniors.

When is the Fall Ball season?

  • Season starts in September with managers' meetings, skills assessments, and drafts. Teams are announced and practices begin mid-September. Games run from mid-September to the first week in November.

When are Fall Ball games?

  • Games are primarily played on Sundays, with 1-2 games per week. **The final schedule is determined by the number of teams per division. 

When and where are practices held?

  • Team managers choose practice locations, days, and times.
  • No individual schedule accommodations or practice location guarantees unless volunteering as a manager.
  • Practices may be at the Davis Little League field complex or local parks. Managers set the schedule based on their availability.

  • AAA: Advanced pitching and stealing skills. All registered players must attend skills assessments.
  • Majors: For experienced players, with faster play and more strategy. All registered players must attend skills assessments.
  • 50/70: For Little League age 13, with larger fields and more advanced play.
  • Juniors: For Little League age 14, with play against other local teams.

Team Placement

Can siblings be on the same team?

  • Yes, if their age and skill level are appropriate for the same division.

When are Skills Assessments and who are they for?

  • AA, AAA and Majors divisions require skills assessments. (**AA skills assessments are new for Fall Ball 2024) 
  • Skills assessments are likely the last week of August or the first week of September.
  • **All players will be assigned a team regardless of assessment performance.

When will I be notified of my child's team placement?

  • You will hear from your child's manager the week before practices start.

Special Cases

We live in Dixon/Winters/Woodland. Can my child play in Davis?

  • Dixon/Winters: Possible collaboration with Davis in Fall.
  • Woodland: Players can join if they attend school in Davis. Otherwise, they must play in Woodland Little League.

What if my home league is having a season, but we prefer Davis Little League?
