Coaching Requirements & Education
Coaching Requirements & Education
Twin County Soccer Association (TCSA) believes youth players deserve licensed, knowledgeable, and player-centered coaches.
Meeting minimum coaching education and training standards ensures a positive and safe environment for player development,
improving the overall experience at every level of the club.
Requirements for All Coaches
All TCSA coaches, including Travel, Micro, and Volunteer Recreation Team coaches, must meet the following requirements:
- NJYS Background Check: Completed through the NJYS registration provider every two years. This includes screening of federal, state, and local databases, as well as the SafeSport Disqualification and Discipline & Risk Management lists.
- Concussion Education: Satisfied by completing the CDC Heads Up! course or the NFHS Head Injury Awareness course.
- SafeSport Training: Required annually, with a certificate dated after January 1st of the current seasonal year (e.g., Jan. 1, 2024 for the 2024-2025 season).
Travel Team and Micro Program Coaches
In addition to the above requirements, Travel coaches must meet the following coaching education standards based on the age group and game model they are coaching:

Volunteer Recreation Team Coaches
Volunteer coaches are the backbone of our Recreation Team Program. We welcome parents and community members who are passionate about supporting youth soccer.
Volunteer coaches must meet the following requirements:
- NJYS Background Check: Completed every two years.
- Concussion Education: CDC Heads Up! or NFHS Head Injury Awareness course.
- SafeSport Training: Completed annually.
Recreation coaches are not required to meet formal coaching education standards, but we strongly encourage participation in the
NJYS State Certificate or US Soccer Grassroots courses
to enhance their coaching knowledge and skills.
