MDLL Code of Conduct
Mason District Little League (MDLL) espouses the core values of having fun, improving baseball skills, teaching and enforcing good sportsmanship and safety, building character, gaining a better appreciation and understanding of the game, and inclusion. Our code of conduct has been developed with these values in mind.
Listed below is the code of conduct for each type of participant:
PlayersPlayers are expected to show good sportsmanship and a growth mindset. They are expected to listen to their coaches, assist and encourage their teammates, be kind to their opponents, and respect the rulings of the umpires. Throwing of helmets or bats, cursing, disrespecting umpires or coaches, or taunting opponents are considered violations of the code of conduct.
CoachesCoaches are expected to represent MDLL in a positive manner at all times. Coaches are expected to follow the rules of the league and promote a safe environment for the players. They must respect the rulings of the umpires and encourage the players and their parents to adhere to the code of conduct. Coaches must enforce the code of conduct and the safety policies of the league. If the behaviors are more than the coaches are comfortable with addressing, they are to reach out to the board members for assistance.
Parents and Other SpectatorsParents and other spectators are expected to encourage and cheer for the kids without criticizing the opponents or any children on their own team. Parents and spectators are required to respect the calls of the umpires and are not permitted to complain, argue, or make noises that indicate dissatisfaction over calls. Parents and spectators are not permitted to get into disputes with anyone before, during, or after a game.
UmpiresUmpires are expected to behave in a professional manner and treat players and coaches with respect. Umpires are to be clear in their calls and take time to explain calls if there is confusion. Umpires shall ensure that the games are played with safety in mind and are to suspend a game if the conditions violate the safety plan.
Online Behaviors
Board members, parents, players, umpires, and other participants are expected to adhere to the code of conduct in person and in their online MDLL-related interactions through emails, text chains, Instagram, and other media.
Consequences of Code of Conduct ViolationsViolations of the code of conduct may result in appropriate disciplinary actions for the severity of the infraction. Minor infractions may result in conversations with the board about the behaviors and the development of corrective actions that must be taken to continue to participate in MDLL. Severe infractions may include, but are not limited to, removal from a game or expulsion from the league. Players who violate the code of conduct may have to sit on the bench for one inning or more, may receive a suspension, or may be subject to other disciplinary actions that are suitable for the infraction.
