Umpire Information

Adult Volunteer Umpires
Adult volunteer umpires are a critical resource for the league. Umpiring youth games is a great way to volunteer your time to help develop our players. If your son/daughter is planning to umpire, becoming an adult umpire is also a great way to work with them on the field. We will provide training. If you are interested in volunteering some time to be an umpire, please register on the website and/or send me an email (info@mdll.org).

Youth Umpires
Umpires should be league age 13 in the spring of the following year (ie, just finished their last season of 60’ baseball). Youth umpires are paid for the games they officiate except during All Star games. Youth umpires should register as an umpire on the website.

Rules
- Cancellation and weather updates are communicated directly with umpire parents via text message or email.
- If a game is cancelled within 1 hour of start time, without either notice or expected weather event, the umpires get paid.
- If an umpire cancels, the Chief Umpire or Umpire Coordinator will find the replacement or approve the replacement if the umpire recommended a replacement.
- Umpires are expected to be present 15 minutes before start time.
- Self service signup (First come-First served).
- Any issues with coaches or parents needed to be communicated immediately so they can be addressed appropriately.

New umpires that have not attended the full spring season training MUST attend the rules training AND field mechanics training.
