Details around requirements

Background check – All managers, coaches and league board members as well as any person who has consistent & direct contact with players through league sanctioned activities, must have a National Verified Background Check and Abuse Prevention Training approved through Babe Ruth League, Inc. every 2 years. DEGSL will provide the appropriate link information to complete this requirement.

Babe Ruth Coaching Certification - It is a requirement is that all baseball and softball coaches affiliated with Babe Ruth League complete coach education and certification. Babe Ruth League coach certification is a lifetime certification. Coaches who successfully pass the course will receive a certification (for that sport) valid for their entire coaching career with Babe Ruth League, Inc. Coaches are required to be certified in each sport they coach. Training is provided by Human Kinetics through their online training program. DEGSL does not reimburse for this training course.

Concussion Certification – Annual requirement for all Managers/Coaches before the second week of practices. Once completed, send the certificate of completion to [email protected].

First Aid Certification – a current certification is required for all Manager/Coaches. These certifications typically expire after two years, so the certification should be valid through the end of the season. A valid certificate from your employer, or community-supplied first aid training, can be used as well. Once completed, send the certificate of completion to [email protected].

Concussion Training
All coaches will take concussion training each year and submit a certificate on the league before second week of practices. Online training is offered free by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Concussion Information Sheet for parents is available here. A concussion is a brain injury that can be caused by a blow or jolt to the head and can change the way the brain normally works. Any concussion is serious whether mild or severe. They can also be caused by a blow to the body that causes the head to move rapidly back and forth and causes the brain to strike the surrounding skull. Concussions most often do NOT result in loss of consciousness - only 10% involve loss of consciousness.

First Aid Training
Managers and Coaches are required to obtain a First Aid certification. First Aid training will be offered online from National CPR Foundation or from the American CPR Care Association. You can fill out an expense form to be reimbursed for the cost of this training, or you can consider this a donation to DEGSL.
