Legends Scholarship

Dedicated in memory of ALL of the legendary coaches and staff who have volunteered their time to help form the
young people of our community in sport and in life

The Down East Girls Softball League Legends Scholarship is a $1000.00, non-renewing, scholarship, awarded to any graduating East Carteret High School senior who has:

• Played at least three (3) years of softball with the Down East Girls Softball League
• Has and is currently playing on the East Carteret High School Softball Team
• Exhibited a strong academic performance throughout their years of high school
• Is planning to continue their education after graduation

Requirements for consideration for the scholarship are as follows:

1. Completed Application
2. Documentation of their academic performance (Official transcript(s), etc)
3. An essay explaining the impact that softball and the coaches have had on the candidate’s life
4. Two (2) letters of recommendation (One (1) should be from a former or current coach)
5. A timeline of their softball experience with Down East Girls Softball League and other softball organizations, if any (dates, teams, and coaches)

Down East Girls Softball League will accept applications for the Legends Scholarship between February 1 and April 15 of the current year.  Applications received after April 15 of the current year will not be considered.  Applications and all supporting documents may be scanned and emailed to [email protected] using the subject line “Legends Scholarship Application” OR the completed application and supporting documents can be mailed to the following address:

Applications will be reviewed by an impartial Scholarship Committee comprised of community members who have no affiliation with Down East Girls Softball League.  The Scholarship Committee will be chaired by a member of the Down East Girls Softball League Board of Directors.  The Committee Chair will have no vote in the selection process, except if a tie breaking vote is required.

The Scholarship Recipient will be announced at the East Carteret Softball Senior Night Home Game of the current application year.
