Frequently Asked Questions

When does registration open?
Registration will open April 2, 2021. Registration will close on June 30, 2021. If you have questions about registration, including late registration, contact our registrar at [email protected].

Remember to register early! The registration date is a key criterion in determining which team (Red or White) you will be assigned to.

What is the minimum age to register?
GEJFA rules specify an age range from 8-14. Exceptions may be made, however, for seven year olds who weigh at least 60 pounds.

What are the 2021 registration fees?

- Registration fees for 2021 are $450 for football and $150 for cheer (cheer charges an additional $300 for uniforms, for a total registration cost of $450).

- Payment plan option available.

What is included in the registration fee?
The registration fee includes rental of all provided football equipment, and contributes to the expenses required to run a successful program. This includes rental fees for practice and game fields, payments for game day officials, membership and insurance with the Bellevue Boys and Girls Club, coaching equipment and training, safety education, and player development.

Wildcats Junior is run entirely by volunteers and therefore depends on your assistance through both volunteerism and fundraising to cover all costs associated with the program.

What football equipment is provided?
Junior Wildcats provides practice and game gear, including: helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, practice jersey and practice pants, and a game jersey and pants.

The only equipment you'll need to provide are game socks and football cleats (no metal or screw-in cleats permitted).

When and where do we pick up the equipment?
The date and location of equipment distribution is currently TBD.

Is there an Equipment Deposit?
Yes! On equipment issue day, before any equipment is issued, you're required to provide a personal check (or a check issued by your bank) made out to the WCJFA in the amount of $300 per participant. This check will not be cashed unless the equipment is not returned on the scheduled equipment return date. When all equipment is returned, the check is shredded. No cash or credit will be accepted - no exceptions.

When and where are practices held?
Practices are held at Centennial Fields. During the preseason (the first three weeks of the season), practice times are from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Monday-Friday. During the regular season, practice times may range between 6:00 - 8:00 PM and 5:00 - 7:00 PM, three days a week.

When are the games?
Game days are Saturdays, starting the first Saturday in September (typically Labor Day weekend). Home games are held at Mt Si Stadium.

What are the rules for junior football?
Football rules are governed by GEJFA. See the rulebook on the GEJFA website.

When is the Junior Wildcats Football Camp?
Rookies-Soph:TBD

JV and Varsity:TBD

How much does the Junior Wildcats Football Camp cost?
- Zero - Included in your Regular Season Registration

- NO WALKUP REGISTRATIONS PERMITTED THIS YEAR

Is the Junior Wildcats Football Camp mandatory?
No, but football camp is strongly encouraged, especially for those playing in the Junior Wildcats program for the first time.

What team and level will my child play on?
Your child's level of play (Rookies, Cubs, Sophomores, JV, or Varsity) is determined by GEJFA's age/weight chart. Your child may be assigned by age points alone, or by a combination of age/weight points. Unlike other sports where parents may request that their child play at a higher level, in football it is almost always advantageous-and safer-for your child to play at the lowest level for which he/she is qualified.

How are teams selected?
Players are assigned to level according to their age/weight, and to team (red, white, gray) according to elementary school boundary. For full details about team formation, see the WCJFA Team Split Policy.

How are coaches selected?
The WCJFA takes coaching responsibilities very seriously. Coaches are selected from a pool of applicants that meet WCJFA requirements, background checks, training, experience, and parent evaluations. The Board convenes a Coach Selection Committee to identify the best candidates available. All coaches, including assistants, must meet GEJFA and WCJFA standards of excellence.

Will my child play on the same team as his/her friends?
In most cases, a player is assigned to a team with other kids in his/her school. As explained in the WCJFA Team Split Policy, team assignment also may be adjusted to accommodate roster parity.

How is my child's position selected?
Coaches will determine the appropriate position for your child to play. Lobbying for a particular position is strongly discouraged. Players are welcome to state a preference, but the final decision is with the Head Coach.

How do you determine playing time?
All players within our program will receive significant playing time. GEJFA rules mandate substitution requirements that are enforced by opposing teams. This does not mean, however, that every child will play the same amount of time. Given team numbers, some kids may play both offense and defense, while others primarily play one-way. This decision is again the sole responsibility of the Head Coach.

Will my child get the same jersey number as last year?
Jerseys are distributed based on team assignment and size requirements. Jersey numbers are not guaranteed.

What is the Zackery Lystedt Law?
The Zackery Lystedt Law requires medical clearance of youth athletes suspected of sustaining a concussion, before sending them back in the game or to practice/training. Each player/parent will be required to review the law and complete a brief certification prior to the first practice.
