Minor Baseball (League Age 9-10)

Minor Division baseball is for boys and girls who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. Players pitch in Minor Baseball. Rules of the game are modified to to accommodate the need for teaching. The primary goals of Minor Baseball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork.

SEPLL offers Minor Baseball for boys and girls League Age 9 through 11, although most players League Age 11 will play in the Major Division. Please use the League Age Chart determine your child's League Age.

Team Formation

Teams have approximately 12 players. The selection of players for the teams in Minor Baseball must comply with the Little League Draft Selection System. This is done to ensure a competitive balance among the teams. SEPLL does not accept requests to play with friends or for a specific coach.

Team Practices

Teams may begin practicing in about mid-March. Where and how often a team practices is up to the manager. Teams generally practice about 2 times per week until the regular season begins in early April. After the regular season begins, team coaches determine the frequency of practices.

Team Games

Teams play 2 games per week. Weekday games generally begin at 6:00 pm. Saturday games are scheduled throughout the day. Games are scheduled from early April through mid-June. An inning may not start more than 1 hour and 45 minutes after a game's scheduled start time. Home games are played at Brooklyn Park. In late March the official schedule will be published at www.sepll.org.

Minor Baseball follows the Little League Baseball Official Regulations and Playing Rules and District #2 Local Rules. Games are played on a 60-feet diamond with a pitching distance of 46 feet.

Fees

Please visit the Fees page for information on our current fees. Scholarships are available to families in need. Contact the Player Agent or Treasurer for information on scholarships.

Uniforms and Equipment

The League provides each player with a team hat and jersey, which is theirs to keep after the season. Players must provide their own pants and cleats.

Players are encouraged to bring their own glove to practice and games. The League provides each team with bats, balls, catcher's gear and helmets. Players are also welcome to bring their own equipment to use. Note: All bats used in SEPLL games must meet the USA Baseball Bat Standard

9-10 Year Old Division Tournament (All Stars)

The objective of the 9-10 Year Old Division Tournament is to provide 9 and 10 year old players the opportunity to participate in a baseball tournament at the District, Sectional and State levels at the end of the regular season. Leagues may place a maximum of 14 players on the All Stars team. To be eligible for play, a player must meet Little League’s “Residency Eligibility Requirement” and have participated in at least 60% of the regular season games as of June 15. SEPLL announces its All Stars team on about June 1. Practices and games generally take place from June 1 into early July, but may continue if the team advances beyond district play. The culmination of the Tournament is the Oregon State Little League Baseball Tournament, featuring teams from around Oregon.

District #2 Honors Tournament

All Minor Division players not selected to the All Stars team are eligible to play in the District #2 Honors Tournament. The tournament typically takes place in late June and lasts no more than a week.

Volunteering

Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to become involved in Little League to support league teams and players. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions within the league.
