Recreation Coaching Philosophy
- Each player should receive maximum touches on the ball - through small-sided games and other activities. No lines, no laps, no lectures.
- Teach through positive reinforcement - each and every child should walk away from every session feeling better about him/herself.
- The game (soccer) is the best teacher - as coaches you don't need to always hear yourselves speak.
- Let the kids make their own decisions - don't tell them what to do.
- FUN! Ensure all sessions are fun for the kids.
Heading
VYSA Rule Change: For U11 and younger: Whenever the ball strikes a player in the head, play is stopped. The proper restart depends upon whether the player deliberately played the ball with his or her head. If deliberate, the proper restart is an indirect free kick to the opposing team. If this occurs within the goal area, the indirect free kick should be taken on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the infringement occurred. If the play by the head is deemed inadvertent, then the proper restart is a dropped ball.
