1. What is an All-Star?
- A child that has proven to be one of the top players in his/her age group, and demonstrates ability through Sunday Select practices (see below).
- Proven either by his/her record in their current season or in tryouts for All-Star/Sunday Select or a combination of these.
- Has shown good sportsmanship among teammates and opponents.
- Has shown respect to coaches and umpires.
- Is coach-able and cooperative.
- The player would be an exceptional representative of Midway Park and contribute to the success of the appropriate age group.
- The player's summer schedule must allow for extensive summer baseball and commitment to his/her team.
2. When will All-Star tryouts be held?
All-star tryouts for all age groups will be held through progressing practices (Sunday Select) that start on Sundays in February (see information below on Sunday Select)
3. What is the format of the All-Star tryouts?
The tryout timeline (before final team is selected) will be left open to the chosen head coach, but practices will begin in February.
4. How will Recreation players be selected for the All-Star tryout?
The top 20-30% of the evaluation class will be invited to attend the Sunday Select development Program. The Coaches of the recreational teams will be asked to submit an additional 1-3 player on week 2-3 of this program based on evaluation of the player development over the course of the first few weeks of the rec. season. Players will be selected for the team/s on a progressing timeline until the final rosters are selected.
4. What is the process for player evaluation and how do you ensure the objectivity of the All-Star selections?
The All-Star/Sunday Select coach will select each team based on Sunday Select practices - the proposed All-Star rosters are then submitted to the Midway Board of Directors for final approval.
5. Who will pick the head coach and assistant coaches for the All-Star team?
The All-Star Coaches will be chosen based on a nomination and interview process that is administered by the Midway Athletic Club Board of Directions. The chosen All-Star Coaches will then select their assistants from the pool of parents of the children that make the team and practices can begin.
6. What is 'Sunday Select'?
To prepare the chosen All-Star teams for their tournament schedule after the Recreation season, Forsyth County allows for Sunday practices ('Sunday Select') starting in February. Teams will be allowed to Scrimmage "In-County" Sunday Select teams throughout the Sunday Select course. The goal of Sunday Select is to assist All-Star coaches and players to prepare their teams through extra practices outside their normal Recreation team schedule. Forsyth County Parks & Rec leaves it up to the booster club (Midway Athletic Club) as to whether Sunday Select begins before or after All-Star tryouts are held. Because Sunday Select can begin earlier this year than in prior years, the Midway Athletic Club Board has decided to have Sunday Select practices to be used as the basis for All-Star team selection.
