Coaching is All about the Kids

PAL Coaches strive to promote and teach a sport at its highest standard in a safe and positive environment. 
We hope to develop each athlete to their highest potential and create a fun, safe and respectful setting.
  Our goal is to instill in athletes of all abilities the love we share for cheerleading, respect for their teammates,
personal responsibility, and an understanding of good sportsmanship.

The Westport PAL Cheerleading program is one of many youth sports under the
Westport Police Athletic League. 
Westport PAL is a non-profit organization with a 50-year history
of outstanding youth sports programs.

Our coaching staff must be willing to commit to being present for practices and games.
Practices can be one or two nights a week in the Fall and Winter season, between 4-6 pm

Games are expected to be one day a weekend in the morning or afternoon.

Coaching responsibilities include game preparation, creating routines, teaching stunts/cheers, and basic team bonding activities.

Westport PAL seeks to find Cheerleading coaches with a combination of good knowledge, the ability to teach skills,
and the talent to positively relate to young athletes.

Responsibilities of a Cheerleading Coach

Create Cheer choreography that is age and skill-level appropriate
Instruct safe techniques for skills | Encourage growth of talent and athletics | Listening skills
Maintain high standards | Ensure the safety and welfare of all athletes
 

Requirements of a Cheerleading Coach

Cheerleading Experience | Reliable transportation | Season Commitment | Enthusiastic and professional
Availability for occasional meetings, cheer clinics, and program events

All PAL Coaches must hold current certifications:
 CPR/First Aid & AED Certified, Heads Up Concussion Training, and pass a criminal background check.
