The Under 6 Program - Introduction to Soccer and FUN!

(Born in 2012)

NASC is excited to provide an introductory program for your 5 year old. Two one-hour long sessions are held each Saturday morning during (9:00 AM & 10:30 AM) at McKinney Field.  You are welcome to register for the session that best fits your schedule.  If you have children in the U5 program, you may want the 10:30 session so it is sequential with your noon U5 schedule.  Each session will be limited to the first 80 children registering. This program includes approximately eight sessions (weather permitting).

When you register, if you get a message indicating that there are no available programs for your child, it might be because the program is full.  You may contact the coordinator for that age group to be placed on a waitlist.

This instructional soccer program has been professionally developed specifically for 5 year old children.  Anyone who was born in 2012 is eligible to play in U6 for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017. Children born in 2011 must register for our U7 program.

The season will consist of Saturday "sessions" which will incorporate both skill development drills and small-sided games. Each session will be approximately one hour long, divided between drills and games.

Instruction in this league is focused on individual ball handling skills and, more importantly, it is structured for the kids to have a lot of fun so that their first experience with soccer will be a positive one.  These professionally developed sessions are directed by a volunteer coach. Teams of 8-10 children are formed to work with a volunteer coach for the instructional portion of the session.  Each session consists of approximately 15 minutes of instruction and then 15 minutes playing a fun game that also promotes development of ball handling skills.  After a short water break, the children will play a modified game of soccer.

Your child will be with the same group of children for instruction and the initial game each week.  As the season progresses, the team may split up and play against other groups of players. The fields are short, the goals are small, and the games are very quick. There are no goalkeepers. This game promotes many "ball touches" for each child, and provides the opportunity for the children to put their ball handling and dribbling skills to use. The entire game portion will last roughly 25-30 minutes.

What does your child need for U6 soccer?  The only required equipment for Under 6 is a pair of shin guards covered by soccer socks, a size 3 soccer ball, and an NASC reversible jersey.  The NASC reversible jersey is required for play and can be purchased for $25 during the registration process if you do not already have one.  This jersey can be used for future seasons in our Recreational programs.  The other items can be purchased at any local sporting goods store or Soccer Source on Rte. 19.  Soccer cleats are not required at this age, but wet fields should be considered when picking out shoes. A water bottle is also recommended with water or an appropriate sports drink.

Volunteers Needed! NASC is an entirely volunteer run organization. For each U6 session, we need at least 2 coaches per team to help with the drills and run the games. If you have ever considered coaching, this is a great time to start, even if you have never played before! You can learn the game along with your child, and potentially continue as your child moves into older age groups. You're going to be at the field anyway, so you might as well join in the fun! Look for the volunteer section as you register your child.

Program Cost
