MSC Age Group Information

Madison Soccer Club uses the new U.S. Soccer age-group structure based on a school-year cutoff of August 1 - July 31.

This change was adopted by U.S. Soccer, US Club Soccer, and AYSO, and applies across the leagues and platforms in which MSC participates.

The purpose of this change is to keep players with their classmates whenever possible, so they can continue to grow as a team and enjoy the spirit of town soccer.

How MSC will place players

Beginning in Fall 2026, travel teams will be formed using the MSC Age Determination Chart below, which follows the August 1 - July 31 calendar.

Madison Soccer Club has also added two accommodations to help families navigate the transition:

• If your player has already been on a MSC travel roster, they will be allowed to continue to play with the age group they have been playing with if they so choose.
• Players will have the option to play “UP” with their grade if they are born AFTER August 1st.  This decision was made to account for the September cutoff date in the Connecticut Public School system.

If your player is born after 8/1 and is considered young for their grade, you will need to indicate which age group you would like your player to be considered with for team placement.  This decision will be made when you register for spring evaluations.

Important notes for families

• The chart above shows the primary age-group placement based on the new school-year cutoff.
• Players who have already been on an MSC travel roster may choose to remain with the age group they have been playing with.
• Players born after August 1 may choose to play up with their grade level.
• Families of players born after August 1 will be asked during registration which age group they would like their player considered for during team placement.
