U10 Recreation Plus Program is an introductory developmental/recreational league geared towards introducing competitive soccer to the players and developing interest in the sport regardless of one's ability for kids born in 2013. Teams will play against U10 teams from other towns in the New Haven area, which will require some local travel.
Teams will have 1 practice during the week with 1 game on weekends (usually Sundays). Teams play 7 v 7.
Evaluations: There are no tryouts and no “cuts”. Anyone who meets the eligibility requirement below is eligible to play. In the event that there are too many players for one team, the coaches will use data from previous coaches (Rec coaches) to split the players to make as many evenly balanced teams as needed – there is no “A” and “B” team split.
Eligibility: For the Fall 2022/Spring 2023 seasons, players born in 2013, date of birth between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013, are eligible to participate, regardless of grade. However, if your child is new to the game, and is in 3rd or 4th grade, it is recommended that he/she participate in Madison’s in-house grade 3/4 rec program in the fall season rather than in the U10 travel rec program, which will have a higher level of competition.
Commitment: The U10 program will consist of one weekday practice and one weekend game, typically on Sunday somewhere in the New Haven area. During the fall season, any player participating in the U10 program is also required to participate in Madison’s in-house grade 3/4 rec program, which will also consist of one weekday practice and one weekend game, typically on Saturday morning. Therefore, in the fall the commitment will be a total of 2 weekday practices and 2 games. During the spring season, players are not required to participate in the in-house rec program, so the commitment consists of 1 weekday practice and 1 weekend game.
Fall - Players are required to play grade ¾ also.
Spring - Free registration to play grade ¾ if also playing U10. Please email Deb Coe at [email protected] for your spring refund.
Playing Time: As this is a recreational league, all players should play at least 50% of every game, unless there are injuries or discipline issues. Players should be rotated among the different positions throughout the season.
Games: There will be roughly 10 games scheduled in each season. In addition, teams will participate in one tournament each season – the Madison Invitational Soccer Tournament (MIST) in September and the Clinton Invitational Tournament (CIT) in May.
