Evaluation FAQs

Q. Should my child attend evaluations?
A.
Evaluations are expected of all players and are highly encouraged.

Q. What is the procedure for evaluations?
A.
Player Evaluations are completed through a process using the various inputs below to create player rankings within each age group.  After combining the data, the Travel Committee determines how many teams can be formed based on the number of players that register.

-Head / Assistant Coach Evaluations from the Spring Season
-Team Trainer Evaluations
-Travel Evaluations and comments

Q. Who is on the MSC Travel Committee?
A.
The Travel Committee is composed of the following MSC Board Members:

-Girls and Boys Travel Coordinators
-Directors of Coaching
-Club Registrar
-MSC President
-MSC Vice President

Q. When will my child be notified about what team he or she is going to be on?
A.
The Travel Committee first determines how many teams can be formed based on how many children have attended evaluations.  From there, players are assigned based on rankings to the available teams.  In late June, preliminary teams are formed and will be announced.  Later in the summer after registration, teams will likely be adjusted based on enrollment.  The final phase is identifying, recruiting, and assigning coaches.

**Please try to register as early as possible so we can determine how many teams will be needed for each age group.

Q. Will my child be on a team with the same players who are on his or her travel soccer team this year?
A.
Not Necessarily – player skill and development change rapidly in youth soccer.  MSC forms teams based on information gathered from evaluations each year.  Some Rec Players will move to Comp teams, some Comp Players will move to Rec Teams.  It’s all part of the development process for youth players.

Q. Can players be moved to different teams within the season?
A.
While players are initially placed on their primary team, teams within the same age bracket can and will borrow players when necessary.

Q. How many teams are there in each age group?
A. This will be dependent on final registrations.

Q. When does the Season Start / End?
A.
The Fall season typically begins the first week of September, and runs appx 8-10 weeks.
