Post-Season Baseball - SKLL's 2025 Tournament & All-Star Team Selections Explained
The end of the regular season brings the excitement of post-season baseball! This is a fantastic opportunity for players to continue developing their skills, experience a more competitive environment, and represent SKLL with pride. For the 2025 season, SKLL will be forming
8 post-season teams: two Tournament Teams and six All-Star Teams.
1. Senior Baseball Division
2. Junior Baseball Division
3. Majors Baseball Division - 12U All Stars
4. Majors Baseball Division - 11U All Stars
5. Majors Softball Division - 12U All Stars
6. Majors Softball Division - 10U All Stars
7. Special Tournament Teams -10U Baseball
8. Special Tournament Teams -8U Baseball
We want to ensure everyone understands how these teams are formed and what to expect. Below we have provided a detailed breakdown of the selection process for our Majors Baseball division and Tournament Teams, which is near identical across all of the other divisions and teams.
Team Rosters: A Note on Size
Each of these four teams will consist of
12 players. There is potential for a
13th player to be added at the manager's discretion. This flexibility allows the manager to:
* Address any potential positional gaps.
* Account for injury concerns.
* Navigate player availability challenges.
While this is particularly relevant for crucial positions like catcher and pitcher, it applies to all positions depending on the specific makeup of each team. It's important to note that while a larger roster offers more depth, it may also mean slightly less playing time per player.\

Tournament Teams:
Building Skills & Having Fun!
Our Tournament Teams offer a wonderful chance for players to experience a more competitive level of play while still focusing on skill development and building a solid baseball foundation. These teams will participate in the **Coventry Friendship Tournament**.
Tournament Team Details & Eligibility
1. 10U Tournament Team: * Ages: Players league age 8, 9, and 10.
* Divisions: Players from both Majors and Minors (AAA) divisions are eligible.
* Focus: While more competitive than the regular season, the emphasis remains on development and fostering a love for the game.
2. 8U Tournament Team: * Ages: Players league age 6, 7, and 8.
* Divisions: Players from the Minors (AA and AAA) divisions are eligible.
* Focus: Similar to the 10U team, this is about skill-building in a fun, slightly more competitive setting.
Tournament Team Selection Process
The selection for our Tournament Teams is a collaborative effort:
* Broad Input: We gather input from coaches and managers across both the Minor and Major divisions.
* Manager's Responsibility: The appointed Tournament Team Managers have the overall responsibility for finalizing their rosters. They may make adjustments they feel are necessary to build the best possible team.
* Key Selection Criteria: While skill level is a primary factor, we also highly value:
* Availability: Commitment to the tournament schedule.
* Positive Attitude: Being a great teammate.
* Desire to Improve: Eagerness to learn and grow.
* Flexibility: Willingness to play different positions or roles.
*
Coachability: Listening to and learning from coaches.

All-Star Teams:
Competing at the Highest Level!
Being selected for an SKLL All-Star team is a significant honor, representing our league in official Little League International Tournament play. These teams compete with the goal of advancing through District, State, and potentially even Regional and World Series levels!
All-Star Team Details & Eligibility* Important Note: Only players from the **Major Division** are eligible for All-Star team selection.
1. 11U All-Star Team: * Ages:Players league age 10 and 11 (from the Major Division).
* Competition Path: This team will compete at the District level with potential to advance to the State tournament, where play will culminate.
* Travel: Expect travel within District 3 to compete against other leagues, and potentially statewide if the team advances.
2. 12U All-Star Team (The Road to Williamsport!): * Ages:Players league age 10, 11, and 12 (from the Major Division).
* Competition Path:This team competes in Little League’s premier tournament! The journey begins at the District level, with winners progressing through the State and Regional tournaments, with the ultimate pinnacle being an opportunity to play in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA!
All-Star Team Selection ProcessThe player selection process for both the 11U and 12U All-Star teams is identical and is a more complex process than for the Tournament Teams. With 12 (or potentially 13) roster spots on each of the two All-Star teams, a total of 24-26 players will be selected. The selection process consists of **three distinct components**:
1. Player Selections: * All Major Division players will be given the opportunity to vote for the top 6 players they believe should make an All-Star team.
* These votes will be tallied, and the **top 6 vote-getters** will be elected to a roster spot on either the 11U or 12U teams (placement determined by age eligibility and team needs).
2. Managers' Selections: * The five (5) Major Division managers will collectively select the
next 16 players. * These selections account for the majority of the roster spots and, combined with the player votes, will identify a total of 22 players.
3. All-Star Managers' Selections: * The final
2 to 4 selections (1 or 2 per team) will be made by the respective All-Star team managers.
* This allows the manager to select at least one player, or two if they decide to carry a roster of 13 players, to best complete their team.
Selection Criteria: While selection is largely based on
skill – as these teams are intended to be representative of the best Little League players in South Kingstown – other important factors such as
leadership, work ethic, specific positional needs, and sportsmanship also come into play during the decision-making process.

The Commitment: A Serious Consideration for All Post-Season Teams
It’s important for parents and players to understand that participating on a Tournament Team or an All-Star team is a **choice**. While it is a privilege and a fantastic experience, it is also a **significant commitment** with added practices and games beyond the regular season.
* All-Star Team Availability: All-Star players, in particular, are expected to be available for
ALL games and practices for the
ENTIRE DURATION of their respective tournament.
* Practices for both the 11U & 12U teams start in
early June * The 11U All-Star tournament play generally wraps up at the state level in
late July. * The 12U All-Star team, depending on their success, could potentially be playing through
late August.* Managing Conflicts: If you realize that your son or daughter has several conflicts that would prevent them from fully participating, it may be a better decision to **forgo a post-season team opportunity**. This allows another deserving Little Leaguer® to have the chance to share in the experience.
* Other Playing Opportunities: For those parents who decide to skip All-Stars/Tournament Teams, or for those whose Little Leaguer did not make a post-season team, please know there are plenty of other opportunities to play!
*
SKLL Sandlot will be starting up in June.
*
Fall Ball is right around the corner!
