The CYSA Spring Basketball season runs from after Spring Break to just before the end of the school year.  Players in the Rookie Division will have one hour-long session per week, on Saturdays. Players in the Minors, Majors, Juniors and Seniors have one 60 minute practice session on a Monday-Thursday night at an area elementary school. They will also have one game per week. Game sessions are 60 minutes and are held on Friday night or Saturdays at Homestead Ele, Birchwood ABC, Gruening MS, or Mirror Lake MS.

Team Formation
In an effort to balance CYSA recreational teams, CYSA shall form teams in a manner consistent with CYSA policies. Team formation is based on player ability (as provided from previous season assessments and/or registration forms) with consideration to gender balancing, height, weight, and age per team. For the benefit of all players, we strive to ensure balance among teams. Therefore, SPECIAL REQUESTS MAY NOT BE CONSIDERED if the request causes imbalance on a team. Requests received prior to the registration deadline will receive consideration in order of receipt. We are very sorry, but in order to keep rosters balanced, SPECIAL REQUESTS RECEIVED AFTER THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE CANNOT BE HONORED.  CYSA will not guarantee placement on a specific team or with a specific coach.  We believe that no matter what team a child is placed on that he or she will have an opportunity to play in a fun and positive environment and hopefully to make new friends and learn new basketball skills along the way!

When Will I Hear From My Coach?
Participants should receive an email copy of the team roster during the week prior to season's kickoff. Once rosters are posted, player transfers/changes will only be approved in extenuating circumstances. Most Coaches will be notifying players during the week prior to the beginning of practices. Game times and locations will be posted on the CYSA website and should always be checked prior to each game. You can also get roster information by logging into our website then clicking on "My Account," then "View Rosters and Schedules". Rosters and schedules should also be available under the "Team Central" tab.

Uniforms & Equipment
Reversible CYSA jerseys will be provided by CYSA and distributed during Jersey Pick-up days to be announced.  Players will need to be dressed in their jerseys at all games. Non-marking shoes are required for all ASD facilities. All other equipment will be provided by CYSA however, players may want their own basketball for at-home practice.

Game Schedules
Game schedules will be posted on the CYSA website at as soon as they are available.  Schedule updates or changes will be emailed, posted on the CYSA homepage and on our Facebook page – so please check these sources each week for announcements or changes.

All CYSA coaches are volunteers who attend a training session discussing effective coaching, program goals and skill development. They are individuals who take their personal time to instruct and coach your child. Without their efforts, this program would not be possible. Please consider coaching and appreciate our coaches! Without them, we wouldn't have a program.
COACHES ARE NEEDED! The only way we can guarantee that each child will have a team is if parents volunteer to coach.  Even if you cannot be the “head” coach, please consider volunteering to co-coach. It is imperative that we have at least two adults participating with each team. Please contact CYSA at [email protected] or 694-6559 if you are interested in coaching.

No experience is necessary – we will train you and give you resources for success.  There will be a Coach Clinic held on October 3rd which includes on-the-court training.  If you wish to coach, this clinic is an excellent place to learn methods and ideas for teaching basic skills, drills and plays.

Team Parents
Every team needs a team parent.  A team parent assists the coaches by helping with phone calls, coordinating after game refreshments and planning the end of season celebration.

Inclement Weather
We are allowed use of ASD facilities if schools are closed due to bad weather; however coaches reserve the right to cancel practices due to inclement weather.  Please contact your child’s coach if you are unsure as to whether practice will be held or not.

Picture Day
Fitzgerald Photography is pleased to be taking your basketball photos. Dates and times of picture days will be published and sent out by your coach and you will receive a packet/order form with all the details. Whether you are ordering individual pictures, or not, PLEASE have your child attend the photo session for the team picture. Pictures are special momentos of our experiences and if a teammate is missing, the memory is incomplete.

Cancellation Policy
In the event of a player cancellation, a full refund will be given to those that cancel their registration prior to the registration deadline.  Once the registration deadline has passed, a processing/insurance fee of $15 will be retained by CYSA. There will also be a $10 credit card processing charge if applicable.

After the first game, refunds will not be awarded. Special cases must be approved by the Board of Directors and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

CYSA Jewelry Policy
Players participating in all CYSA sports are not permitted to wear any jewelry (including earrings, watches, bracelets, necklaces, etc.) or dangerous hair accessories (metal or hard hair clips. beads, etc.) during practices or games. Referees will check players before each game to ensure they comply with this policy.  Any player who does not remove unsafe items will not be able to play. This policy is for the safety of all participants.
