Season
The 2024 fall Outdoor CYSA/NFL Flag Football season will run from August 12th- September 19th. The schedule will be 2 practices the first week. Half hour of practice and then a game each scheduled night from August 19 - Sept 19. A total of 9 games per team (no games on Monday or Tuesday Sept 2/3 due to Labor Day weekend). The younger group will practice and play on a Monday / Wednesday schedule and the older kids on a Tuesday / Thursday schedule. Probable start time at 6pm at Mirror Lake Middle School (pending ASD permits).
Team Formation
In an effort to balance CYSA recreational teams, CYSA shall form teams in a manner consistent with CYSA and NFL Flag policies. Team formation will be based on player abilities (as provided the previous season) in consideration with gender, height, and age balance among the teams. School attendance area will be taken into account, as long as it does not conflict with the previous considerations.
CYSA will not guarantee placement on a specific team or with a specific coach. Our belief is that teams need to be formed for the benefit of all players; for this reason, we may often need to refuse special requests that limit our ability to balance teams. We believe that no matter what team a child is placed on that he or she will have an opportunity to play in a fun and positive environment. If you have special requests for teammates and/or coaches, please feel free to note them during the registration process. As long as we receive requests PRIOR TO THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE, we are usually able to honor those requests. Requests are extremely difficult to honor after rosters are completed, so please understand that we cannot take requests after the deadline.
When Will I Hear From My Coach?
Because the nature of our programs is to keep registration open until the week before the season begins, our rosters are done early in the week prior to the start of the season. If you have not heard from CYSA or your Coach before the first practice week, check your CYSA account for roster and coach information. If you have not received an email containing roster information, confirm that the email address on your CYSA account is correct and check your spam/trash folders as well. It is critical that your CYSA email address is up-to-date as this is how we send all important information. If you need assistance accessing your account, please email CYSA at [email protected].
Uniforms & Equipment
Please be sure to choose a jersey size during the registration process. NFL Flag jerseys will be given to coaches for distribution at the first practice. These jerseys will be NFL team replica jerseys that are yours to keep, and names on the jerseys are not mandatory, but can be applied at your expense. All other equipment will be supplied by CYSA. Players should be dressed in their jersey at each session. Mouthguards are highly recommended for all practices and games.
Game Schedules
Game schedules will be posted on the CYSA website at www.cysa-ak.org. Schedule updates or changes will be posted here and sent to the email address on your CYSA account – please check your schedule each week for announcements or changes. Updates will also be emailed, sms texted and/or posted on our Facebook page.
Coaches
All CYSA coaches are volunteers that attend a training session discussing effective coaching, program goals and skill development. They are individuals who take their personal time to instruct and coach your child. Without their efforts, this program would not be possible. Please join us in appreciating the time they spend with our kiddos!
Coaches are needed! The only way we can guarantee that each child will have a team is if parents volunteer to coach. Even if you cannot be the “head” coach, please consider volunteering to assist your coach. It is imperative to have at least two adults participating with each team. Please contact CYSA at 694-6559 if you are interested in coaching.
No experience is necessary – we will train you. There will be a coaches’ clinic held in late July-early Aug to include on the field training. If you wish to coach, this clinic is an excellent place to get applicable ways to teach your team basic skills, drills and plays.
Team Parents
Every team needs a team parent. A team parent assists the coaches by helping with phone calls, coordinating after game refreshments and planning the end of season celebration.
Inclement Weather
Practices and games will be canceled Coaches reserve the right to cancel practices due to inclement weather. Please call your child’s coach if you are unsure as to whether practice will be held or not.
Picture Day
Fitzgerald Photography is pleased to be taking your flag football photos. Coaches will be notified of dates; times will be announced by coaches once they have signed up for the teams’ photos. You will receive a packet from your coach with the details.
Cancellation Policy
In the event of a player cancellation, a full refund will be given to those that cancel their registration prior to the registration deadline. Once the registration deadline has passed, a processing/insurance fee of $25 will be retained by CYSA. There will also be a $5 credit card processing charge if applicable.
After the first game, registration is closed and refunds will not be awarded. Special cases must be approved by the Board of Directors and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
CYSA Jewelry Policy
Players participating in all CYSA sports are not permitted to wear any jewelry (including earrings, watches, bracelets, necklaces, etc.) or dangerous hair accessories (metal or hard hair clips. beads, etc.) during practices or games. Referees will check players before all games to ensure they comply with this policy. Any player who does not remove unsafe items will not be able to play. This policy is for the safety of all participants. PLEASE DO NOT get your child's ears pierced prior to any sports season - unless you are willing to remove the earrings for games and practices!
