Team Formation
In an effort to balance CYSA recreational teams, CYSA shall form teams in a manner consistent with CYSA policies. Team formation will be based on player abilities (as provided by parents) with consideration given to gender, height, and age balance among the teams.  School attendance area will be taken into account, as long as it does not conflict with the previous considerations.  CYSA will attempt to honor requests regarding practice night conflicts AS LONG AS REQUESTS ARE RECEIVED PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE.

CYSA will not guarantee placement on a specific team or with a specific coach.  Our belief is that teams need to be formed for the benefit of all players and for this reason, we may often need to refuse special requests that limit our ability to balance teams.  We believe that no matter what team a child is placed on that he or she will have an opportunity to play in a fun and positive environment.

Playing Up
Participants with a higher skill level or experience may "play up" in an older division with the permission of the program manager or soccer director.

When Will I Hear From My Coach?

Because we leave our registration open until just before the season begins, rostering teams is the final step before the season begins. Please understand that we take the rostering process seriously so we can do our best to balance teams by age, gender, and skill level as listed by parents on registration forms. The rosters are usually posted days before the first week of practices and Coaches usually contact players soon after rosters are posted.  You are also welcomed to check the website at any time for the most up-to-date information. Please understand that we may reconfigure teams during the first week of practices to better balance rosters, so please be patient while we try to make it the best soccer season for your child. We will do our best to prevent conflicts with family schedules and honor requests. Please review your roster and practice information as soon as you receive it. If there is a conflict that will prevent your child from practicing please contact the CYSA office at [email protected] immediately. Please understand that changes are extremely difficult after rosters have been posted.

Uniforms & Equipment
reversible jerseys needs to be purchased upon registration unless the player already has a CYSA jersey. The new jerseys will be worn for CYSA sports (soccer, basketball and volleyball). A new jersey will not need to be purchased until your player outgrows or loses their jersey. Players should wear their CYSA jersey at all games and some coaches may request that players wear jerseys to practices as well, to assist with scrimmages. Shin guards are required for all practices and games, worn inside of the socks. Cleats are allowed on ASD fields!

Practice/Game Format
The U4 Coed division has one 60 minute session per week that is generally made up of a 30 minute practice and a 30 minute game at the coaches discretion.  They will play 3 v 3 without keepers using a size 3 ball.

All other divisions have one 60-90 minute practice (depending on age division) and one game session during the week, Mon/Tue practice and a Wed/Thurs game.  All practices start no earlier than 6pm and end before 9:30pm (for the oldest age groups).

Game Schedules
Game schedules will be posted on the CYSA website at www.cysa-ak.org.  Schedule updates or changes will be posted here –
please check the website and your schedule each week for announcements or changes. Information can also be found on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/CYSA-AK/144861932228886?ref=hl.

Coaches
All CYSA coaches are volunteers that attend a training session to discuss effective coaching, program goals and skill development. They are individuals who take their personal time to instruct and coach your child. Without their efforts, this program would not be possible so please join us in thanking them.

Coaches are needed! The only way we can guarantee that each child will have a team is if parents volunteer to coach.  Even if you cannot be the “head” coach, please consider volunteering to assist your coach. It is imperative to have at least two adults participating with each team. Please contact CYSA at [email protected] if you are interested in coaching. We offer a $50 credit off league fees for any coach.

No experience is necessary – we will train you.  The coaches’ clinics will be held prior to each season. If you wish to coach, this clinic is an excellent place to learn tips and tricks to teach your team the basic soccer skills.

Team Parents
Every team needs a team parent.  A team parent assists the coaches by helping with phone calls, coordinating after game refreshments and planning the end of season celebration.

Inclement Weather
Practices and games will be canceled if there is lightning.  Coaches reserve the right to cancel practices due to inclement weather.  Please call your child’s coach if you are unsure as to whether practice will be held or not. CYSA will not cancel all evening outdoor events unless major thunderstorms are in the area (if cancellations occur through CYSA system wide emails will be sent to all participants).

Picture Day
Coaches will sign up for a picture day and time directly with the photographer. Once they have signed up for the teams’ photos, you will receive notice from your coach with the details. You are not obligated to purchase pictures, however a portion of your purchase is donated back to CYSA to continue our youth sports programs. And even if you chose not to purchase pictures, PLEASE HAVE YOUR PLAYER ATTEND THE TEAM PHOTO SESSION. The team photo is a great memory and everyone should be included!

Cancellation Policy
In the event of a player cancellation, a full refund will be given to those that cancel their registration prior to the registration deadline. Once the registration deadline has passed, a processing/insurance fee of $15 will be retained by CYSA. There will also be a $5 credit card processing charge if applicable.

After the first game, registration is closed and refunds will not be awarded. Special cases must be approved by the Board of Directors and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

CYSA Jewelry Policy

Players participating in CYSA sports are not permitted to wear any jewelry (including earrings, watches, bracelets, necklaces, etc.) or dangerous hair accessories (metal or hard hair clips. beads, etc.) during practices or games.

Referees will check players before all games to ensure they comply with this policy.  Any player who does not remove unsafe items will not be able to play.  This policy is for the safety of all participants.
