Kingston Youth Sports Association (KYSA) is teamed up with Poulsbo and Bainbridge Island by joining the Poulsbo Parks and Recreational Winter Basketball league. We are very excited to be joining this league; we feel it provides a great opportunity for our players to play in a quality league with an outstanding reputation while having all the practices and games held locally. This is a tremendous basketball program that focuses on fundamentals, teamwork and good sportsmanship. Parents can be assured that the league provides a heavy emphasis on equal playing time, safe play and creating an enjoyable environment for the players.
Per the coaches’ discretion, each team can have up to two practices every week for the entire season starting as early as December 15th. All practices will typically be held here in Kingston. All games are played on Saturdays starting in the beginning of January. These games will be held locally in Kingston, Poulsbo or Bainbridge Island. There will be two paid officials at every game and pending the amount of players who sign up teams will be divided up by grade and gender.
*Even though KYSA is joining the Poulsbo Parks and Recreational Basketball League in order to play on the Kingston team the player must register through KYSA*
RULE #14 – PARENTS / GUARDIANS RESPONSIBILITIES
A. For each player, the parent/guardian will volunteer 2 hours. This time can be field maintenance, concessions, participating in fundraising events or additional items that are approved by the board.
B. Parents/Guardians have the option to pay $50 to opt out of their volunteer time.
C. If a parent/guardian does not meet the volunteer requirement his/her account will be charged $50 at the end of the season.
Grades 1st– 4th Boys and Girls: For this age group the focus is on fundamentals, good sportsmanship and developing a love for the game. All teams are guaranteed to have a total of 8 games, all held on a Saturday, with two paid officials at each game. This is a developmental age group that only plays half court and man to man defense to help each player be actively involved in the game. There are mandatory substitutions every 5 minutes to ensure that all children are receiving equal playing time.
- Regular registration (beginning Oct. 1st) = $180
5th Grade Boys and Girls: The head coaches of the 5th grade teams will have the option to make a game time decision to play High School basketball rules or to use the same rules (or some of the same rules) used in grades 2nd-4th. Both coaches need to agree on the modified rule changes if not the 2nd-4th grade rules will apply. Each 5th grade team is guaranteed 7 regular season games and will participate in the end of season 2 game elimination tournament. This gives them a minimum of 9 official games all played locally on a Saturday.
- Regular registration (beginning Oct. 1st) = $180
Boys Grades 6-8 and Girls Grade 6: In this division the teams use standard High School basketball rules. All teams will play in 7 regular season games and will compete in the end of season 2 game elimination tournament. This gives them a minimum of 9 official games all played locally on a Saturday. *This league does not interfere with the boy’s middle school basketball season, by the time practices start the middle school basketball season has ended. This gives parents a great opportunity to sign their children up to play continuous basketball to help develop their skills*
