The Coach Pitch Division is an instructional and confidence-building division designed for young players who are ready to progress beyond Tee Ball. This division is intended for players little league ages 6-8. Little League age 6 children should have at least 1 year of tee ball experience before playing in the Coach Pitch Division. This level introduces athletes to hitting a pitched ball while continuing to emphasize fun, fundamentals, and steady skill development. To better support players as they grow, Richmond Little League offers two age-based Coach Pitch groups:
Coach Pitch I (Little League Ages 6–7)
This introductory Coach Pitch group is ideal for players transitioning from Tee Ball. Coaches pitch in a supportive, development-focused environment, helping players learn proper throwing, catching, hitting mechanics, and the basics of base running and fielding. Games are instructional and paced to ensure each child gains confidence while experiencing the excitement of real baseball play.
Coach Pitch II (Age 8)
This division is designed for players with one or more seasons of coach pitch baseball experience who are ready for a slightly more advanced level of baseball. The focus remains on teaching fundamentals, but players begin to develop a clearer understanding of game situations, defensive responsibilities, and more consistent hitting against a coach pitcher. The format prepares players for the transition to kid-pitch divisions while still maintaining an encouraging, developmental atmosphere.
Across both levels, Richmond Little League’s Coach Pitch Division prioritizes participation, learning, and enjoyment, ensuring every player takes the field, builds skills, and gains confidence as they continue their baseball journey.
