Rules for Playing in Bad Weather

Below are the league rules for playing under bad weather:

Check the BHYSL website for any announcement.

  1. Rain is not considered grounds for a game to be stopped, unless the field becomes unplayable.
  2. If the weather makes the field unplayable, the referee will stop the game. If the referee does not, the Coach should request that the referee do so.
  3. If both coaches want to stop the game, they should request that the referee stop the game.
  4. Coaches, referees, players and everyone else should immediately leave the field and seek shelter if there is lightning or thunder.
  5. In case of Lightning OR Thunder, the referee will stop the game. If the referee does not, the coach should that the referee do so. The referee is required to wait 15 minutes after the last time thunder is heard or lightning is seen before resuming the game.
  6. NO ONE SHOULD EVER STAND UNDER TREES IN THE EVENT OF LIGHTNING OR THUNDER.
  7. The coaches DO NOT decide if it is OK to resume the game. The referee has the authority to make that decision.
  8. If the delay will extend into the next scheduled game, the referee will end that game. For example, thunder is heard with 10 minutes left in a game. The game should be stopped, with the game then considered completed.
  9. There will be NO refunds for weather related cancellations.
