WSR provides a winter basketball . These seasons are built on learning basic skills rather than fierce competition. Athletes are provided playing time throughout all divisions as we want children to learn the game and build their skills to be successful as they progress through their playing time.
Our youngest age division is purely skill developmental in which scores are not kept, violations are called by coaches, and basic fundamentals are expected at the end of the season.
The next age division provides more skill development and the ability to start competing on a lower level. We do keep score, have paid officials and expect the outcome to be a higher caliber of skill development in line with age progression. There is a progressive level of violations called throughout the season with officials stopping play to explain to an athlete what they are doing incorrectly and how to make the necessary changes to progress their play.
The upper age divisions boasts the highest level of competition for the recreational program. Score and standings are kept throughout the season, paid officials call more violations and less on court instruction. Athletes playing in this division are on a larger field with expectations to move to a next level with the skills to compete against other same-age players.
