Travel Team Formation & Tryout Info

Hello 2020/2021 Travel Families:
After a significant amount of deliberation, SSC has put together a plan for its 2020/2021 travel team formation process. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the Board has tried to navigate an unprecedented situation to prepare a plan that is workable, reasonable and responsible within our current circumstances. We recognize that no plan is perfect and that some families may have concerns about the structure or the process. Please know that significant thought went into this process and that we have consulted with programs across the State to try and find a reasonable approach. All that we can ask as a soccer community is that families and coaches appreciate and recognize that this year is simply different and that a multitude of constraints dictate our approach.

Because of the circumstances, we have decided to largely eliminate traditional tryouts this year. Only in a few, limited age groups will tryouts proceed as usual. Where possible, we have worked to reduce/limit the number of players at a tryout or we have tried to eliminate tryouts altogether for certain age groups.

For those players who do have tryouts, they will be held on Saturday, July 25th at Curtiss. The schedule is as follows:

  • U9 Boys 9:00am
  • U12 Girls 10:30am
  • U13 Girls 10:30am
  • U15 Boys 12:00pm
  • U15 Girls 1:30pm
Team Formation Approach:
  • Where numbers permit, A and B rosters will be carried over from prior year and new players added to B team
  • U10 A&B teams will be formed using the professional independent trainer assessment from prior U9 season, new players to be assigned to B.
  • If there are insufficient numbers in an age group to form 2 teams (A & B), B team will be disbanded and players will be given the opportunity to try out for open A team roster spaces
  • U15 identified as unique case due to the combination of prior U13 and residual U15 players, tryouts will be conducted to form A and B teams
Tryouts: The format of tryouts will be communicated to you as soon as possible as these important details are still being worked through.

  • U9: TRYOUT Required (~31 players)
  • U10: A & B teams will be formed based on feedback from professional independent trainer at U9 level
  • U11: A&B formed based on prior team alignment
  • U12: A&B formed based on prior team alignment
  • U13: A&B formed based on prior team alignment
  • U15: TRYOUT Required (~45 players)
  • U9: Team formed based on those currently registered W/O tryout
  • U10: A & B teams will be formed based on feedback from professional independent trainer at U9 level
  • U11: A single roster will be formed including all registered players
  • U12: TRYOUT Required (~20 players): All registered non-A team players will be invited to tryout to fill open A team spots
  • U13: TRYOUT Required (~13 players): Insufficient players to field 2 viable teams.  B team will be disbanded but all registered non-A team players will be invited to tryout for vacant A team spots
  • U15: TRYOUT Required (~45 players)
More information will be forthcoming but the above is the SSC plan for moving forward. We are hopeful that we will be able to play soccer in the Fall but we recognize there is still significant uncertainty. Multiple deadlines are looming so we need to put our plan into action now. Again, we appreciate your understanding and patience.

Thank you.

~SSC Board
