Background Checks and Training for Coaches

Coaches and Managers,

Tennessee State Soccer requires all coaches and managers to have a background check and be trained on concussions and child sexual abuse.

All coaches, assistant coaches and team managers need to do the following:

1. Background check through Affinity (instructions attached) - Anything not disclosed on the request the coach completes, and is found out with the background check, will fail. It is better to disclose everything. The only true thing that will be an automatic fail is anything to do with sexual misconduct. Background checks CANNOT be completed on a phone. It must be a laptop or desktop. The technology apparently just is not there yet. Also, you need to be sure the correct season (2019-2020) is chosen.

2. Head's Up Concussion training - Upon completing the training please send your completion certificate to [email protected]

3. Safesport Training- This is sexual abuse training that must be completed.  We agree with TN State Soccer and the importance of the protection of children.

NOTE: I went online to register for the training. It would not work on Chrome but I got it to work on Explorer. When you register it asks for a membership. Select US SOCCER and the access code is YC3E-6P5G-YYIL-CS2M.

All of the above must be done. In addition to the background check, each competitive COACH will check a box that they may be chosen for a random drug test. If they receive a cup in the mail, it has to be taken. (The rec coaches may see this box when they do their check as well, but they will not go into the pool of possible tests.)

Keep in mind, all of this must be completed for you to get player cards issued from TSSA.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
