Covid 19 Rules to return to play

Laurel Little League’s COVID-19 Guidelines

In order to ensure the health and safety of all associated with Laurel Little League (including all within Maryland District 4) and visiting teams and families, we need the cooperation of all players, families, coaches, and volunteers.

General Protocol

● Each individual player, coach, and spectator has a responsibility to conduct themselves

in a manner that protects themselves and others from illness. This includes ensuring that

all participants are symptom and fever free per CDC guidelines PRIOR to arriving at the

field. Anyone who does not meet CDC guidelines, is not permitted to attend a game in

any capacity.

● Anyone with a fever of greater than 100.3F cannot participate in any activity for 14 days

from the end of the fever, unless a doctor’s note permitting a return is received.

● Managers of all participating teams have a responsibility to ensure that all players,

coaches, and spectators follow all rules and best practices, in addition to all other rules

surrounding sportsmanship and conduct.

● It is the responsibility of each team to provide needed supplies for the periodic

sanitization of baseballs referenced in these rules. (Clorox wipes for balls, gloves, and helmets)

● Violations of rules may result in immediate ejection of the individual and/or team

manager from the facility, forfeit, and/or disqualification from the remainder of the

game/season/playoff where applicable.

A COVID Manager (cannot be a rostered coach or scorekeeper) shall be designated for each team prior to game start.  Responsibilities include:

a. Wiping down dugout area with disinfectant wipes prior to and post-game and ensuring that all team trash is removed and properly disposed of after the game.

b. Ensuring that players are social distancing at least 6’ away from each other down the fence line.

c. Wiping down the baseball after each ½ inning or as needed (e.g. foul balls out of play).  After each play the ball should be returned directly to the pitcher (i.e. no throwing the ball around the horn).

Game Specific Rules

• Home plate umpires and other umpires must wear masks at all times, Especially behind the catcher at home plate.

• Base coaches must maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from the base and may not lean in to speak to players on their base WITHIN the 6 feet radius.

• Coaches are always required to wear masks no matter where there are relative to the playing field.

• No group celebrations, fist bumps, high fives etc. are allowed.

• All enclosed dugout areas are EXTENDED for the players to successfully space 6’ apart prior to entering the field.

• Teams are limited to 4 coaches (or 3 coaches + 1 scorekeeper) within the playing field area.

• Sharing of communal baseball equipment (i.e. bats, helmets, gloves (including batting gloves), catcher’s gear, etc.) is not allowed.  In the event equipment must be shared (i.e. a piece of equipment becomes broken and there is no replacement) the COVID Manager shall disinfect the equipment prior to use.

• Prior to each game, umpires will visually inspect the balls provided by each team to ensure they meet requirements for that age group. Covid Manager will wipe them down in between ½ innings.

For younger players (Tee-ball, and Coach pitch divisions), it is the expectation by the League’s Board for team identified coaches to assist in minimizing the parental interaction with players during the game. All other in-game COVID requirements, notwithstanding player or coach injury, will be enforced with efficacy.
