VOLUNTEER CORNER

We are a not-for-profit soccer & field hockey association and the success of our programs depend on our volunteers.  We have many opportunities available throughout each season that you can sign up to volunteer.  We encourage parents/guardians and grandparents to get involved to make the experience more memorable for the player.  Older siblings (middle or high school age) can also earn volunteer credit hours and our Program Director will gladly sign off on any credit hour worksheet.   Below is a list of ways that you can volunteer:

Head Coach - All training, support & equipment is provided.  Must be 18 years of age or older and willing to commit to several hours each week during the season for practice & games.

Assistant Coach - All training & support is provided.  Must be 18 years of age or older and willing to commit to several hours each week during the season for practice & games.

Team Parent - All training, support & organizational materials are provided.  The team parent is the liaison between the head coach & the team for communication regarding practice information, game information and any other pertinent information.  The team parent will also serve as liaison between the Optimist Office Administrator and the team parents for general questions, comments or concerns. The team parent will work together with the Snack Coordinator to schedule & plan an end of season party for the team. Team Parent will also be responsible for ordering end of season trophies/medals, collecting monies for same & picking up.  Must be organized and have a valid email address & phone number.
 
Snack Coordinator - All training, support & organizational materials are provided.  The snack coordinator puts together a snack schedule for the season and works with the parents to ensure healthy snacks & drinks are provided at the end of each game.  The snack coordinator will work together with the Team Parent to schedule & plan an end of season party for the team.

Field Coordinator - All training & support is provided.  The field coordinator will work closely with the program director to ensure all fields are ready for play.  Field coordinator will be responsible for arriving to their assigned field location by 7:30am on their assigned game day (Saturday) to verify that goals are in place and work with referees to set up flags and clear each field of debris, if needed.  Field coordinator will be responsible for contacting the program director immediately if there are any problems or concerns.  If it is raining on game day, the field coordinator will be responsible for arriving to their assigned field no later than 7:15am and reporting to the program director if the field is playing condition.  Must be 16 years of age or older, have a valid, NC driver's license and personal vehicle.

Open Registration - We have several open registration sessions pre-season for both spring & fall.  Volunteers are required to meet the Program Director on site at the Open Registration location and assist in set up/take down, accepting registrations & answering general questions.  Volunteer time blocks for open registration are minimum 2 hours.  

Marking fields / Moving Goals - at the beginning of each season, volunteers are needed to assist the program director in marking soccer fields & moving goals into place at each playing location (Shaffner, Jefferson Middle, Hine Park).  Volunteer time blocks are flexible.
