"An Invitation To Become a Hero"
If you:
- Are about the children of your community,
- Would like to be a young person's hero,
- Desire to make a positive difference in the community where you live/work,
- Are willing to volunteer your time and talent to help with projects that serve the children in your community...
Then we invite you to become a member of our Optimist Club, which was chartered in 1948.
We are very proud of our club's contribution in helping the youth of our community. The major project of The Winston-Salem Optimist club is our Youth Soccer League. Organized in 1976, we average over 1000 boys and girls playing each spring and fall season. More than 450 adult volunteers help by serving as coaches, referees, and League officials. Our league is a recreational league, where we strive to create an atmosphere of fun and sportsmanship without a win-at-any-cost attitude. Every player gets to play at least one-half of every game and there is no intense pressure to win.
The creation and current popularity of public school soccer within our community can be traced to our efforts in the introduction of soccer to our youth.
We invite you to come and share in the important work we are doing with the youth in Forsyth County. Membership is open to men and women with an optimistic and a desire to make a difference in their community. To become a member you need only fill out a membership application and pay the initiation fee of $25 (First quarter installment). The Winston-Salem Club meets every 1st and 3rd Modays for our evening meetings at Omega House on Peters Creek Parkway, for those members who cannot regularly attend non-meetings.
