Frequently Asked Questions and Information

 

How do I sign up for TEXT Alerts?
During the registration process, you will be asked to enter in a cell phone number.  If you elect to receive TEXT ALERT & NOTIFICATIONS, you are REQUIRED to also provide a valid email address.  Once you have checked the box to receive text alerts, you will receive an email from BLUE SOMBRERO with further instructions on verifying your cell phone number so that you can receive text alerts.

How do I know which age group is right for my child?

When you start to register your child ONLINE  you will see age groups listed as U___ - the U stands for UNDER.  For example, if your child is 7 years old, you would register in the U8 (UNDER 8) age group.  If you are printing and mailing in your registration form with payment, you will register your child as determined by their year of birth (see registration form for more details).

Where do I get my child’s uniform?

If you have ordered a uniform, they can be picked up 7-10 days before the first scheduled game date at Soccer Unlimited, 3033 Trenwest Drive, Winston-Salem, NC  27103.  You will be notified via TEXT or EMAIL when they are available for pick up.  You will need to take a copy of your receipt from registration verifying that you have purchased a uniform.


What are we required to bring each week to practice and/or games?

Each child is required to have shoes (soccer cleats for U6 & up age groups)
Shin Guards
Soccer Ball (check with your coach to determine size)
Water bottle or Gatorade
Parents are encouraged to bring something to sit on (chair/blanket) to relax while your kids play.

When will our season start and do we practice?

Spring season games begin the third week of March.  Fall season games begin 2nd week of September.  Practices usually begin 1 to 2 weeks prior to first scheduled game.


Are there restroom facilities at each field?

Restroom facilities are provided at each field location.
Shaffner Field - there are restroom facilities provided on site at Shaffner Field.

 

How do the games and practices work for the 4, 5 & 6 year old teams?

Each week your child will practice the first half hour with their team and then split up into 2 groups and play the team beside them. If we have an odd number of teams they will alternate Bye weeks where they will play themselves.


When will our coach contact us?

All available coaches will be sent rosters.  Remember they are parents and volunteers so work with them.  If you have not heard anything by March 1st  (Spring Season) or September 1st (Fall Season) please email [email protected].  We are always in need of coaches. My child has a friend that wants to play....can they play on the same team?

We make every effort to honor all requests, however, there are NO GUARANTEES that your child will be placed on the same team as their friend(s).  If your child has played the previous season, we will try our best to place them back on the same team; however, if your registration is received after the deadline, there are NO GUARANTEES.  No exceptions.


If it rains how will we know if games are cancelled?
We will post all weather and game status changes on our website by 3:30pm daily and no later than 4:30pm if the Parks and Recreation Department has closed all city fields.  It is the parent/guardian responsibility to check the website for weather updates.  You may also sign up on our homepage to receive a text message (standard data rates apply).  A rain date will be set and all parents and players will be notified by their coaches or team parent.


Team Snacks and Awards:

Each team has a volunteer snack coordinator who will assign parents/guardians to supply healthy snacks/drinks each week on a rotating basis.  We encourage healthy snacks & water/gatorade/fruit juice.  Each team is responsible for their snacks and end of season awards. I've registered my child for soccer/field hockey, but now they want to do a different activity.  What is your refund policy?
