You may have noticed an experiment we have been running in our U8 and U10 age brackets over the past few weeks in our rec program.  

We have been testing a system developed by the FA to encourage more balanced play, and to discourage severely lopsided results. 

The system is called Power Play. Power Play allows a team to add an extra player if they are down by 4 goals. If the team with the power play shrinks the goal differential to under 4 goals, the extra player must come off. However, if the team in the lead extends their lead by 6 goals, the opposing team can add a second additional player. If the lead gets extended to 8 goals, a third additional player will be allowed on the field. 

The benefits for this system are simple:
- more playing time
- more balanced play
- increased challenge for teams with more developed players
- less discouragement
