Weather Conditions – We will close our fields if there is thunder, heavy rain, hail or the possibility of tornadoes in the area. Extreme temperatures, which may cause health concerns, are also a determining factor. Snow and sleet coverage could also cause field closure depending on the amount.

Field Conditions – Weather itself is not the determining factor, safety is. Even if it is no longer raining, we may cancel play. The weather may look good, but the fields could be water-logged from previous rains. Standing water and saturated fields can be potentially hazardous for players as the ground does not provide proper support. Ankles and knees are easily turned under these conditions and falls are common causing an increase in injuries. Heavy activity on saturated ground is damaging to the fields which may cause long-term effects.  We work hard to provide fields that not only look good, but “play well”. Fields that do not have sufficient grass coverage or have uneven patches (both of which occur from playing on water-logged fields), are less than ideal for safe play.

Make-up Games – Whenever possible, TYSA will reschedule games that are cancelled due to field closures. Typically, we are able to fit two make-up games into a season if need be. (See our Rainout Policy under CLUB INFO/Club Policies). If a rescheduled game is also rained out, we cannot guarantee that it will be made up, but we do look at all possible options. If we are unable to formally reschedule, U6-U12 coaches may get in touch with one another to have make-up “scrimmage” games. These would be coach-reffed.
