History
The history of our park and the community of Clarkdale dates back nearly 100 years. In 1931, the Coats
and Clark Company constructed a mill across the street from our park. The following year, village houses
were constructed for the mill workers. By 1934, amenities were developed for the village residents, one
of which was a baseball field. The baseball field included a grandstand behind home plate and bleachers
along both foul lines. Mill village baseball teams were quite common across Northwest Georgia during
this time. The Clarkdale Eagles were a well-known and well-respected baseball team who competed at
the Clarkdale baseball field. The Coats and Clark Company closed mill operations in 1983. In the early
1990s, the baseball field at Clarkdale was redesigned to accommodate three youth fields. Southwest
Baseball, the precursor to Clarkdale Little League, occupied these fields until 2004, when the current
Clarkdale Park was constructed. Today we honor the history of our park by striving to be the best
baseball organization for youth in our community.
