Mallard Creek Optimist Club

Welcome to Mallard Creek Optimist Club Youth Softball Program!

Our program is dedicated to providing an exciting and enriching softball experience for girls ages 8 to 16.

Spring Softball Registration is now open! Don’t miss your chance to join us for an exciting season of fun, development, and competition.

We offer recreational softball divisions of play for girls, designed to provide age-appropriate opportunities for development and competition. League age ranges are structured to keep participants playing at the level most suitable for their development. Age ranges often overlap, allowing players who need additional time to develop to play down in a division, or to play up in a division if they are ready to advance and are approved by the league board.

All players are required to attend a skills evaluation, after which a final determination is made regarding division placement.

Coaches Needed

We are always in need of quality coaches to help guide and inspire our players. Coaches must join Mallard Creek Optimist Club (MCOC) to take advantage of the many benefits of being an Optimist member within our club, the district, and Optimist International.

As an MCOC member, coaches are also covered under our liability insurance policy. Membership is a requirement to coach, and annual dues must be paid by new coaches or be current for returning coaches.

Background checks are performed on all coaches, and MCOC reserves the right to withhold coaching privileges based on the results or any other criteria deemed pertinent. For additional information, please visit our website.

Previous Season’s Highlights

The 8U Rookies team finished the season with a record of 9-4-1 and won its first playoff game. With many first-time players showing quick progress and competitiveness, we are excited to see these young athletes return, and the growing participation might allow us to field two 8U teams for the first time ever.

The 10U Minors age group fielded two teams for the first time. Many players advanced from 8U, and we are optimistic about their continued growth and development.

Our two 12U Majors teams went undefeated against East Lincoln and CoulOak throughout the season, with their only losses being to each other. The season concluded with the Hurricanes (12-1) defeating the Cyclones (10-3) by a score of 6-3 in the first-ever All-MCOC Championship Game at Mallard Creek Park.

The 12U Majors All-Stars won the first North Carolina District 3 Little League Championship in our program’s history, defeating Lake Norman Little League in a Championship Doubleheader with scores of 15-0 and 14-1. At the State Tournament, they secured a win over Transylvania, upset the defending champions Pitt County, and narrowly lost the State Championship game to Rowan County 2-1. They also came up short in the Southeast Regional qualifier against Pitt County, 5-4. Both Rowan and Pitt later competed in the Little League Softball World Series, showcasing the strength and talent of North Carolina teams.

A 9-11 Year-Old All-Star Team, the D3 Charlotte Stingerz, was assembled from players across Mallard Creek, East Lincoln, and CoulOak. This team won the North Carolina State Championship with a thrilling 4-3 walk-off victory. The Stingerz represented North Carolina at the Tournament of State Champions in Tennessee, where they earned the No. 2 seed after an impressive showing.

Sophia O’Neal, one of our 12U Majors All-Stars, represented Mallard Creek in the T-Mobile Little League Home Run Derby East Regional at Kaufmann Stadium. She hit an incredible 69 home runs in three 90-second rounds and competed for a chance to advance to the Championship in Williamsport, PA.

We are incredibly proud of the players, coaches, and families for their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship. The future of Mallard Creek Optimist Club Softball looks brighter than ever.
