Welcome to Mallard Creek Chargers Pop Warner Cheer Program
The Mallard Creek Optimist Club program was started in 2009 with three teams. We are a Cheer program for ages 5-16. In 2010, our program grew to three cheer teams and joined the Pop Warner, Little Panther's Division. Each squad consists of up to 35 cheer members and will be divided by age and grade level. Each season may be different based on enrollment and team sizes. Our teams have grown together and look forward to growing even more in the future!
Our focus for the upcoming season will be on fun and physical fitness while maintaining a strong emphasis on scholastic. The season begins with cheering for our respective football teams. Games are held on Saturdays and will require local travel. As we move into September, we will begin to work on competition preparation where the focus is on tumbling, stunting and dance. Our teams will compete in the Pop Warner Little Panthers Cheer Competition held mid October. Teams placing 1st and 2nd will then advance to Regional's which is held mid November. Any advancing teams ( placing 1st or 2nd) will compete at Nationals which is held at Orange County Convention Center, Orlando FL.
Each Cheer Family will receive a Parent/Cheerleader Handbook at registration which will contain more detailed information and expectations for the Season. Please continue to check the website for more updates as well. We look forward to welcoming returning and new members to the Charger Family.

Practice Information
- Practices begins early August, and games begin late August/early September. Cheer Squads practice 2-3 times per week, depending upon age group, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Friday's. Actual days depend upon coaches’ availability and facilities.
- Practice will be held at Mallard Creek Park 3001 Johnston Oehler Rd, Charlotte NC. Once colder weather changes indoor practice location will be provided

- Mallard Creek High School (Johnson Oehler Rd)
- Game times are set on a week-by-week basis; schedule times for the season will not be provided.
Competition
All squads will participate in a local cheer competition held annually in late October; Opportunities for advancement to regional and national competitions are contingent on Competition squad sign ups.
Experience
No previous cheer experience is required! We love teaching the sport of cheer to all levels. We only ask that participants show up to every practice with a can-do attitude, bright smile, and loud voice!
Assessments
We do not hold any tryouts or assessments. Participants are placed on squads corresponding to the Pop Warner age brackets. We do our best to place all participants on age/skill appropriate teams. You can request in the notes on the registration page that your participant be placed on the same squad as a friend(s)/sibling, but friends/siblings may be on different teams if they do not fit in the same Pop Warner age bracket.
Registration Cost
- Cost for season is $300
- Covers uniform (returned at the end of season), socks, bows, bloomers, insurance and facility fees.
Forms required at registration:
Picture/copy of Birth Certificate if new player. Returning players birth certificate is saved in the system.
Picture/copy of Health Physical dated in 2024; Complete the 2024 Medical/Physical Form provided by your medical provider.
Additional items required prior to the season: Copy of 2023-24 Report Card; 2024 Participant Contract and Parental Consent Form.
