US YOUTH SOCCER USES A CALENDAR YEAR FORMAT TO DETERMINE PLAYER AGE GROUPS. ALSO NOTE THAT THE FORMAT "U FOLLOWED BY AGE" REALLY MEANS THAT AGE AND YOUNGER. FOR EXAMPLE, U8 SHOULD BE READ AS 8 AND YOUNGER.
THE FORMULA TO CALCULATE A PLAYERS AGE GROUP IS TO TAKE THE YEAR THE SPRING SEASON ENDS MINUS THE PLAYERS BIRTH YEAR. THAT NUMBER IS THEIR AGE GROUP. FOR EXAMPLE, A PLAYER BORN IN 2010 PLAYING IN THE FALL 2023 AND/OR SPRING 2024 SEASONS, WOULD BE A U13 PLAYER (2023-2010=13)
