NHSC Program Overviews

Below are the current programs offered by North Haven Soccer Club.

Please refer to the Age Group Matrix to see which program is appropriate for your player.

KICK-START

The objective of the co-ed Kick-Start program is to begin to instill a love of soccer and physical activity within the young soccer players of North Haven. Through an engaging curriculum, fun activities, and enthusiastic coaches, the players will enjoy themselves, while being introduced to the game of soccer.

Given the young age of these participants, an adult is required to stay at the field with the participant during the sessions. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to take an active role on the field during the sessions in order to help the children get acquainted with the staff and enjoy the overall soccer experience. NHSC strongly suggests that players enrolled in Kickstart are at least 4 years old. You may register a 3 year old, but we years of experience has proven that this is occasionally not the best decision. No athletes younger than 3 can register.

The Kick-Start program is a six week clinic program beginning mid April (spring season) and mid September (Fall season) which is offered on Wednesday evening OR Saturday morning for 45 minutes. Sessions are held at either Memorial Field or Grover Wyman field, both weather and season depending.  All important week-to-week information on the program is sent via email.

Soccer players will need shin guards and a size 3 soccer ball.  Please write your child's first and last name on their soccer ball prior to their first practice. Please bring sneakers and water to every session.

Upon successful completion of the program, players who are age-appropriate will be encouraged to move on to the CLINIC program.

CLINIC

The objective of the co-ed clinic program is to instill a love of soccer within the young soccer players of North Haven. Through an engaging curriculum, fun activities, and enthusiastic coaches, the players will enjoy themselves, first and foremost, and also come away with a developing understanding of soccer.

This is a six week clinic program beginning mid April (for the Spring season) and mid September (for the Fall season). Players may play either on Wednesdays from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM or on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Location (either Memorial Field or Grover Wyman) depends on which session and which season due to field availability.

U7-8

The U-7/8 Program looks to continue the developing passion for the game of soccer through fun, enthusiastic soccer experiences. Additionally, the U-7/8 Program has two key objectives: (1) player development and (2) the introduction of the game of soccer. These two distinct elements are achieved through one weekday practice sessions and weekend games.

The U-7/8 Program is a 10 week program that consists of a 60 minute practice session during the week and a game on Saturday mornings. Separate in-town leagues for boys and girls teams compete in games consisting of 4 12 minute quarters and are played on ΒΌ of a full size soccer field with either 4 or 5 players per team on the field at a time. Players are also offered a second opportunity to attend Skills Night as a second chance to practice. These sessions focus on individual ball skill work and some age appropriate speed and agility work.

U9-10

The objective of the U-9/10 program is to continue developing fundamental skills and techniques while also instilling a passion for the game. Development of the individual player is first and foremost while the coaches start working in more team concepts to this age group. This is the age where many creative skills are developed and players begin to gain comfort and confidence with the soccer ball.

There are 3 program offerings within this age group. You must first register for the in-town program and can then be considered for the step up and devo programs.

The in-town program is a 10 week program that consists of a 75 minute practice session one night during the week and a 60 minute game on Saturday afternoons. There are separate in-town leagues for boys and girls teams. **It is a goal of the North Haven Soccer Club that this in-town program emphasizes player development and not winning games. In order to achieve this, the soccer club will reassign teams each season in order to ensure a balanced league. Players in this program are guaranteed to play at least 50% of each game. Players are also offered a second opportunity to participate in Skills Night as a second chance to practice. These sessions focus on individual skill work and some age appropriate speed and agility work.

Once registered for the in-town program, players may be considered for the following developmental teams. Players invited to these programs will be notified of a supplemental online registration program where they can accept the position. Placement on these teams requires an additional fee.

U-9/10 Step Up: This program is IN ADDITION TO the in-town program. Players selected for the boys or girls step up program will have an additional 90 minute practice session per week and additional "friendly" games against other towns' comparable teams each weekend. They are also encouraged to attend the Skills Night sessions. Players accepting this program position must agree to the extra commitment level. An additional cost of $130 will be charged when accepting the program offer. In addition to the in-town colored T-shirt, players on this team will be given a Step Up t-shirt.

U-10 Developmental: This program is IN ADDITION TO the in-town program. Players selected for the boys or girls "devo" program will have a 90 minute practice session per week and 60 minute games against other towns' U-10 devo teams each weekend. Players are also required to attend the Skills Night sessions. In addition, the team may elect to enter some extra weekend tournaments. The cost of these tournaments will be split amongst the team members. Players accepting this program position must agree to the extra commitment level. An additional cost of $130 will be charged when accepting the program offer. In addition to the in-town colored T-shirt, players on this team will be given a Devo t-shirt.

U11-15

These age groups consist of 2 levels of play. Both levels play games against other comparable town teams within the South Central District of CJSA. Separate teams are formed by age group/birth year based on the number of players registered.

The travel recreation program runs for 10 weeks and has one 90 minute practice during the week and 1-2 games per weekend. The teams will play recreation level teams from the local area.

The travel competitive program runs for 10 weeks and has two 90 minute practices during the week and 1-2 games per weekend and usually enter the CT Cup which will involve additional games. Players on competitive teams are expected to show a greater commitment and higher level of skill.

Placement on a competitive team is based upon results from the annual tryout (June/July), coach evaluations, and coaching director feedback.

**Registering for the competitive level team DOES NOT guarantee a roster spot. Rosters are created based on a number of factors including registration numbers, SCD/CJSA roster limits, tryouts, coach evaluations, and director feedback. If you've registered for a competitive team and are placed on a recreation level team, you will receive a refund of $125.**

U16-19

The program is a 10 week program only offered in the Spring that consists of a 90 minute practice session one night during the week and an 80 or 90 minute game either on a weeknight or weekend. Games are played on a full sized soccer field with 11 players per team on the field at a time. *Note, in the fall U15 is only offered as a recreation level team by SCD. There are no U16-U19 offered due to the high school season.

U16 & U19 Teams play league and friendly games within the South Central District of CJSA and usually enter the CT Cup which will involve additional games. The number of teams and age group split will be determined based on the number of players registered. There are only competitive level leagues at this age group, therefore the comp fee is already built into the registration fee.

WINTER CLINICS

Winter skill clinics are a fun way to stay involved with soccer during the off season and improve your speed, agility and foot skills before the upcoming spring season. All sessions are held at the North Haven Middle School Gym. Please be sure to wear sneakers!!

Each winter we offer 6 week clinics from early January to mid February for players from U6 to U10. One hour sessions are held on Wednesday evenings. Placement in the various sessions will be based on age once we know the number of participants registered.

SUMMER CAMP

Each summer the club runs a 4 day camp in mid August for players from U4 to U19 age groups. The soccer camp offers one-on-one help to individuals of all ages/levels/positions and is designed to develop the tactical/technical needs of goalies, defenders, midfielders and forwards. It prepares athletes for club, premier, middle school, high school and collegiate play. The objective of the coaching staff will be to help build individual and team confidence, while focusing on "possessive play and tactical awareness."
