Cancelled - Fall Soccer 2020

Hello Soccer Families,
I'm going to start by saying that this message is one of the most difficult that I have had to write in all of my years of involvement with youth soccer here in Skagit Valley.
Earlier, I sent a message that we (SkVYSA) were optimistic about the likelihood of being able to have a fall recreational youth soccer season. This was based on predictions/forecasts that Skagit County would advance to “Phase 3” of the Governor's mandates for resuming activities in time to play soccer this fall (albeit with schedule modifications).
There is a lot of planning and preparation that has to be done in order to make a season of youth soccer possible. Unfortunately, some of those preparations have deadlines that are rapidly approaching. It is simply not possible to wait until late-August or early-September to make decisions about whether or not we can play.
Based on recent data and information, it is now looking very unlikely that Skagit County will advance to “Phase 3” in time to play recreational soccer this fall. There is also a high amount of uncertainty that the various school districts and city/county parks, whose facilities we use, are even going to allow play this fall.
Because of this, I regretfully have to announce that the SkVYSA Board of Directors has decided to cancel the upcoming recreational youth soccer season for this fall. Please know that this decision was not easy to reach and was not taken lightly. We hope that, by fall 2021, this pandemic will be behind us and we can get the kids back out on the pitch.
This decision does not affect Northwest United FC select soccer as their play is directly managed by Washington Youth Soccer.
A couple of the individual clubs that typically offer “in-house” play (typically at younger age levels) may continue to do this if there are enough players registered and there is field space available for use by the club. It will be up to each individual club to determine if this is an option.
If your club is not going to play this fall, it will be up to the club to reach out to anyone who has already registered and paid fees regarding refunds. SkVYSA does not establish refund policies or process refunds.
Stay healthy and we hope to see you back in 2021.
Chad Burton
SkVYSA
President
