GYSA's baseball program is divided into different age groups to organize players according to their level of skill development and grasp of concepts of the sport. Younger age groups will serve as an introduction to the sport and introduce the concept of team sports with an emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork. Middle and older ages will serve as an introduction to competitive sports with an emphasis on participation, sportsmanship, skill development and team concepts. This will provide a natural and smooth progression for the players as they advance from one group to the next. The baseball divisions are as follows:
Jr. T ball - (Age 4 only) Serves as an introduction to the sport for young players with the primary goal being to develop fundamental baseball skills. All players should receive positive reinforcement and be encouraged to try their best. Standings, score, and outs are not recorded.
Sr. T ball - (Ages 5 and 6) The primary goal of this division is to begin to instruct young players in the fundamentals of baseball within a supportive team environment. Introduces the concept of competition as standings, scores and outs are recorded.
Rookie/Coach Pitch League - (Ages 7 and 8) The primary goal of this division is to enhance the basic fundamental skills of fielding, hitting and sportsmanship. In an effort to develop hitting and fielding technique and speed up game play, coaches will pitch to their own players throughout the course of the game.
Minor League/60/Kid Pitch - (Ages 9 and 10) Players build and refine their fundamental skills while beginning to understand game strategy. The primary focus remains on education, development and teamwork while encouraging a deeper understanding of the game and advancing skill development in order to prepare players for successful participation at the Majors level.
Major League/70/Kid Pitch - (Ages 11 and 12) Featuring a 50' pitching distance and 70' base paths, this division is offered as an option to the major division format, and includes a tournament trail from District competition through the World Series in Branson, MO at Ballparks of America featuring 8 International Champions.
