ST. JOSEPH CYO TRACK AND FIELD 2025 - PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

St. Joseph CYO Track and Field 2025

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Hello Parents and Players,

Welcome back to a new CYO season of track and field for grades K-8th. The program is open to children K-8 living within the St. Joseph parish church boundaries. All children are encouraged to invite their friends to participate. Remember, it’s the only sport that every athlete has the opportunity to compete in all the events. The registration process consists of a series of program questions that are required for you to complete. Unanswered program questions is considered an incomplete registration.

REGISTRATION
Included in the registration process for you to read and complete are:
-Parental Permission, Health Authorization, and Release and Waiver
-COVID Policies for Participation in CYO Sports Liability Waiver
-Code of Conduct and Social Media Policy Agreement
-CYO Concussion Information Sheet
-Volunteer Opportunities
-Uniform Order
-Registration Fees

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
A player has to play where they are eligible. Eligibility in CYO is established in one of three ways:
(1) If a child attends the parish school, they can play for their school.
(2) If the child is in religious education at the parish, both this year and last year, they can play for that parish.
(3) If the child and parents live in parish boundaries, they can play for that parish.

FOR FAITH FORMATION AND BOUNDARY PLAYERS, YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF THE PLAYERS BIRTH CERTIFICATE. NOT INCLUDING THIS DOCUMENT IS AN INCOMPLETE REGISTRATION.

FOR BOUNDARY PLAYERS, YOU MUST SUBMIT PROOF OF RESIDENCE SUCH AS A CURRENT UTILITY BILL (NO PHONE BILLS ACCEPTED) AND A MAP SHOWING YOUR RESIDENCE IN OUR BOUNDARIES. NOT INCLUDING THESE 2 DOCUMENTS IS AN INCOMPLETE REGISTRATION.

REGISTRATION FEES
The registration fee to participate in track and field is $80.00 plus $20.00 for a jersey top.

PLEASE NOTE that Sports Connect, the website that is processing our registration will be charging a $3 transaction fee. For example, if the registration fee is $80 and the uniform fee is $20, you will be charged $103 in total.

PARENTAL PARTICIPATION IN CYO
In order for this program to be successful, we need participation of parents. The coaches and team parents who volunteer countless hours each year are not the only ones responsible for the success of the program. Each family who signs up their child to play CYO sports must make a commitment to the program. This commitment includes volunteering time whenever it is needed as well as getting your child to practices and meets consistently and on time. Coaches understand that occasionally a meet or practice will be missed due to illnesses or unexpected events. Please contact the coach as early as possible, but no later than two (2) hours before practice/meet, to let them know your child will not participate. What is not acceptable is when a child repeatedly misses meets or practices without a good reason such as injury, illness or special family occasion. Other weekly activities such as other sports, etc. do not count as excused absences. This is detrimental to both the player and their team. The coaches will be instructed to keep track of repeated unexcused absences. Our program has many children on the waiting list each year, and we want to make sure that the child’s playing are totally committed to this program. The coaches will explain their individual policies to you at the first parent meeting after the teams are organized.

The due date for registration will be February 14th. If there are any questions, please contact:
Hiep Pham at (510) 789-7736 or [email protected]

St. Joseph CYO Track and Field

About

2025 Season

Welcome to another year of CYO Track & Field. Our program is open to children K-8 living within the St. Joseph parish church boundaries. All children are encouraged to invite their friends to participate. Remember, it's the only sport that every athlete has the opportunity to compete in multiple events.

CYO Track & Field

Just like the Olympics, our program includes traditional running events, relay races, and field events. All athletes compete at their own level and are awarded medals and ribbons for their achievement. Everyone is a winner.

Our Program

St. Joseph Parish is a participant of Mission Valley Track & Field League, known to us as Section III. There are 10+ parishes, approximately 500+ kids that compete during our regular meets. We generally have 5 regular meets during the season plus a relay meet, a Sectional Qualifier for the Diocese, a Sectional Final for K-2 and of course, the Diocesan Finals.

Our track program has been around for a very long time. On the average, we have about 50+ athletes that participate in our program. Grades 3-8 make up the majority of the team while K-2 accounts for about 20 kids. We also have an equal balance of athletes that are parishioners, Christians, and others who live within the boundaries of our church.

Track is an individual sport. Our league provides ribbons for merit of completion, regardless of what place the athlete achieves. As always, there will always someone who is faster or jumps higher, or throws farther. Our program teaches the kids to better their efforts each time. More importantly, we encourage the kids to have fun and acknowledge God's blessings each day.
