COVID-19 Updates & Return to Play

Return to Play: Safety Protocols for Players

May 22, 2020

Subject: 2020 Coronavirus Information and Update

Dear Families,

As we communicated last week, Governor Walz has moved the dial which allows groups of up to 10 to gather it included outdoor activities of up to 10. We have spent countless hours over the last couple of months creating contingency plans and trying to find a way to get back on the field. Our soccer governing bodies, municipalities, and school districts have been working towards what exactly this means for permits. We have since had clarification that while we are able to begin limited in-person training beginning June 1, unfortunately the ability to play games within this summer soccer season will not occur. Therefore, the extremely hard decision by our soccer governing bodies was made to cancel the season. We realize that this will be very disappointing to many of you but also a relief to others as we all continue to navigate these uncertain times.

What does this mean for our programs?

Competitive
We will still be offering training for our Competitive Program as prescribed by the State of MN, MDH, and our soccer governing bodies beginning June 1. This training is optional, and each player and family will need to choose what is best for them. We will also continue to send out virtual training for players to work out at home. Tonka United has been working on the safety protocols which are prescribed by MDH and our soccer governing bodies. Please see the Safety Protocol Graphic as to what training will look like under the current phase. Refunds will be offered. The amount of refund varies team by team based on recouped amounts by events, cost savings for referees, & fields along with an additional amount as we understand the disappointment of not being able to fully play the game you love. A survey will be sent to each family to let us know if you will continue to train as well as we will give each family the choice to accept their refund, or donate that amount back to Tonka United to use for staff/coach expenses, coaching development, facilities, scholarships and future programming. We know this is a tough time financially for everyone so we certainly do not expect everyone to give, but we would greatly appreciate you considering donating your refund amount.

Little Jrs. & Recreation

Unfortunately, our Little Jrs. & Recreation program will be cancelled as we cannot get the games in nor train in a safe environment under these conditions. We are looking to expand our fall program into August and include the older grades when & if it becomes safe to do so. Since we were unable to start this season, we are offering a full refund to families. CLICK HERE to choose your refund preference.

Tonka United is a non-profit 501c3 and relies solely on registration fees to cover expenses. We are trying to do everything we can to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 on our club financials, and we would greatly appreciate your help in avoiding further operational losses so that we can continue to provide the best youth soccer experience in the future.

As always, the safety & health of our players and staff is of utmost importance. All decisions were made in accordance with the CDC, MDH, state & local governments, & soccer governing bodies.

We look forward to seeing you all in the future (at the proper physical distance of course!),
