SELECTION CRITERIA

With try-outs on the horizon, I wanted to take this opportunity to discuss the process with everyone. Next month players within our club and region will be vying for positions within the club. This process will see players selected to Rangers teams and placed with other like-minded players of the same ability. Rangers coaches, neutral evaluators, and myself will be looking for players who show the potential to play at a competitive level against other clubs throughtout the state.

The try-out process will include a technical component, small-sided game (7v7),( 8v8) as well as a 11 v 11 match. Some try-outs may also include a Speed and Agility component as well. There are four main criteria we are looking for in players. They are:

  • "Technical"- Are players technically sound. Are they good technically when pressured by the opposition.
  • "Tactical"- Do they have good spatial awareness and understanding of the game. Do they understand their positional play on the team. Do they show good movement off the ball, to support their teammates.
  • "Soccer IQ"- Do they have a good understanding of the game in general. Make good decisions when in possession of the ball.
  • "Athleticism".- Do players posses the physical requirements needed to play at a competitive level.

PLAYING UP RULES:

A player may “play up” on any team if they are playing with their grade at school. Other players wishing to “play up” must try out for their correct age group as well as the age group they are wishing to "play up" in . Players “playing up” must make the starting 11 or must be one of the "Top 5" players on the Gold team of the age group that they trying out for. The Technical Director will make the final decision regarding all players "playing up".
