Mandatory Rec Coaches Meeting (2017 - April 8th at Minnetonka City Hall @ Council Chambers - 2nd floor)
A quick reminder regarding the mandatory Rec coaches meeting on Saturday, April 8th 2017.
Times for the meeting are below. We will cover important coaching and league information. After the meeting you will receive equipment, your coaches’ shirt, and the very popular ice cream coupons from Tonka Trolley!
2017 Rec Coaches Meeting
9:00-10:15 AM
- Pre -Kindergarten - Kindergarten Coaches will be at Minnetonka City Hall
10:30-11:45AM
- 1st Grade – High School Coaches will be at Minnetonka City Hall
Background Checks and Concussion Training
At least 1 adult from each team needs to complete a background check and Concussion training. Coaches will receive information once teams and coaches are assigned.
Team Practices
Team practices may begin after April 17th!
Thank you to so many of you who have already contacted your team and have begun planning team practices. Since I have had some emails, I wanted to get some details out to you prior to our meeting next week.
Most Rec teams practice once per week outside of their league game. Pre-K teams DO NOT have additional practices. Team practice times, days, and locations are chosen by each individual team so you as coaches get to decide on details for your team practice. Please communicate your plans with your teams as we often get emails and phone calls from parents asking for practice times for their team.
Practice locations can be tricky. Tonka United does not check out or reserve fields for Rec teams. Many of our Rec teams practice at neighborhood fields or in yards so I do not have a list of all of the options. However, I do have some ideas for those of you who are struggling to find a place to practice. No need to worry about goals – most teams do not practice on fields with goals and just use cones (provided in coach bags at meeting) or kids’ backpacks for goals and boundaries. There are also some locations where Rec teams cannot practice as they are completely booked with traveling teams or we have been asked not to have teams there.
Field Options:
Neighborhood parks – these are often best!
Local City parks
St. Therese - Friday evenings, Saturday mornings, Sunday evenings only
Freeman park – weekends only
Manitou Park (Excelsior)
Anyone with a big yard?
Places you cannot practice: MMW, Deephaven PIT, North Lotus, Manor Park, Civic Center, Minnetonka High School, Hopkins High School, Hopkins West Jr High, Eisenhower
Game Schedules
Game days are listed on the website under RECREATION/PLAYING DAYS. Actual game times will be released near the date of the coaches meeeting
