🏈 The Difference Between Recreational & Competitive Flag Football Divisions 🏈

At California Football Academy (CFA), we offer two distinct flag football divisions to ensure every young athlete has the experience they’re looking for on the field. Whether a player seeks high-level competition or a fun, skill-building environment, we have the perfect league for them! There will still be Playoffs and Championships in both the Recreational and Competitive divisions.

🏆 Competitive Division – Tryouts required for "free agents"!

Our Competitive Division is designed for experienced athletes who are ready to take their game to the next level. This division is NOT open to everyone—players must earn a roster spot either by having been pre-selected by a coach or through tryouts.  We will facilitate tryouts for any coaches/teams needing additional player.  Recommended at least 1 season of experience in either tackle, flag, or 7v7 football.  Anyone who does not receive an invite after tryout selections will automatically be placed on a recreational division team.

🚨 Competitive Division Requirements:
✔️ Tryouts Required – Players must try out and are not guaranteed placement on a team.
✔️ No Friend Requests – Teams are formed based on skill and not personal preferences.
✔️ Coach-Selected Rosters – Coaches may add players from tryouts to fill spots.
✔️ Pre-formed Teams Encouraged – Coaches may bring their own teams.  All coaches must pass a background check.
✔️ Higher Level of Play – Faster-paced games, stronger competition, and advanced strategies.
✔️ Pathway to Regional & National Tournaments – This division prepares players for elite-level competition.

This division is for serious players who want to compete at a high level and develop their skills, strategy, and teamwork.

🏆 Recreational Division – Fun & Development Focused

The Recreational Division is open to all players, regardless of experience. It is designed to teach fundamentals, sportsmanship, and teamwork in a structured and fun environment.

✔️ No Tryouts Required – Open to all skill levels.
✔️ Teaches the Basics – Focus on passing, flag pulling, footwork, and game knowledge.
✔️ Teamwork & Sportsmanship – Emphasis on participation, learning, and having fun!
✔️ Friend Requests Allowed – Play with friends and enjoy the game together!
✔️ Low-Pressure Environment – Perfect for players looking to learn and develop at their own pace.
