Every year the Underwood Optimist Club in conjunction with the Underwood Elementary School conducts a Christmas Basket Program for families in need of food and gift support during the holiday season. The students in the Underwood Elementary School host a non-perishable food drive. The Underwood Optimist Club members provide assistance by purchasing gifts for each child indicated in the signups. Additionally, there is an extremely generous family in our community who donates a ham or turkey to each family who registers. Together both elementary students and Underwood Optimist Club members box up the food donations for each family along with the gifts to provide to each family registered.
ALL PARTICIPATING FAMILIES REGISTERED REMAIN CONFIDENTIAL
This program is available to any family with at least one child enrolled in the Underwood Community School District, or any individual living within the Underwood School District, that may find themselves in need of extra food assistance during the holiday season.
Program Details:
- Each registered family will receive a box (up to 3 boxes) of non-perishable food items, plus, either a ham or turkey (selected at registration).
- A gift will be provided to each child in the home age 17 and under (limited to $35 in value).
- Each family will need to pick up their basket on Saturday, December 21, 2024 during their assigned time at the Underwood Elementary School.
- If items are not picked up by 9:00am, the items will be donated to another family in need.
