Widely regarded as one of the greatest Women’s Soccer coaches in NCAA history, Brian McManus joined La Jolla Soccer in 2012 after 24 years working for the Nomads Soccer Club.

McManus began coaching the UCSD Women’s soccer program in 1987 and became the seventh most winningest coach in NCAA history. Under Brian’s direction, the program won seven NCAA National Championships and was crowned CCAA Conference Champions 11 times in 14 years.  In recognition of his coaching excellence, Brian is a four-time recipient of the National Coach of the Year Award and five-time recipient of the Western Region coach of the Year Award.

McManus is a native of Scotland where he played professionally for Raith Rovers and Aberdeen and spent 11 years as a semi-professional player and coach.

McManus’ strength lies in getting out of players what they didn’t think was possible.  He teaches discipline, commitment and the love for the game.   He is also well-known around the country and has been an influential force in college placement for many of the girls he has coached throughout the years.

“Having lived and coached in the La Jolla community for both club and college for the past 27 years, it still excites me to see the growth of soccer in La Jolla and I feel privileged to be a part of it.”
