Challenger Baseball is a Little League-affiliated adaptive baseball program for players with physical or intellectual disabilities who benefit from a different model of play than conventional town and travel baseball. John and Maureen Koehler started the local program over 25 years ago in Wakefield, to level the playing field in local youth sports and provide an athletic and social opportunity to all. Free to all players, Challenger League is an informal and instructional program loosely divided into Senior and non-Senior players on the basis of age and ability. The sessions are a combination of games and practices and are typically held at Back Fernald fields on Tuesday nights at 6 PM and Saturday mornings at 9 AM.
